The Bubble Club Brings Two Gigs to The Marlowe Studio, May 2014
Local producers The Bubble Club are bringing two gigs to The Marlowe Studio.
Today, 2 May, rock band Virgil And The Accelerators perform. Virgil is a rare natural talent and a true master of his instrument. With Gabriel's formidable drumming and Jack's impressive bass skills, these musicians combine to deliver what appears to be a telepathic "tour de force".
This tour accompanies the band's new album recorded with legendary Grammy-nominated producer Chris Tsangarides (Black Sabbath, Judas Priest).
Virgil won Best Guitarist at the 2013 European Blues Awards.
On Friday 13 June, The Bubble Club, based in Whitstable, present a triple bill of up-and-coming acts to watch in 2014: Wildflowers, Will Varley and Funke And The Two Tone Baby.
Wildflowers were put together in April 2012 by Siddy Bennett, the 22-year-old Brighton-based, lead singer and chief songwriter. The line-up includes Siddy's sister Kit Bennett on vocals, accordion and Hammond organ, James Ashbury on vocals, guitars, mandolin and banjo, and Kendal Sant on vocals, harmonica and acoustic guitar.
A recent review called Wildflowers "The bastard children of Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles". Wildflowers songs are filled with great lyrics, tempos and harmonies, with a hint of the Laurel Canyon singer-songwriter scene of the late 60s.
Will Varley is a 26-year-old folk singer, poet, storyteller and novelist from London. After growing tired of the city in 2010, Varley moved to Deal and, along with a number of musicians, helped to set up Smugglers Records. Varley's live performances have become more and more anarchic over the years.
Audience interaction, surreal improvised comedy between songs and chaotic stunts (like playing two songs at the same time) are now more often than not included in his shows, though he will just as quickly deliver a melancholic and heartbreaking ballad or a fiery protest song as he will a shaggy dog story or an amusing talking blues number.
Varley recently supported Frank Turner for a date on his tour.
Hailing from Medway, Delta, Funke And The Two Tone Baby is a one-man mechanical blues band, a "self-contained festival" and one of the hardest working acts on the independent live circuit.
Tickets for both gigs can be booked by calling the Box Office on 01227 787787 or via marlowetheatre.com.
