Home Theatre (UK) is back for the second time to grace the homes of London residents, half of whom will not be regular theatre goers. This year Theatre Royal Stratford East will be hosting an international symposium exploring and examining theatre happening in people's homes on Monday 19 October.

Home Theatre is about bringing artists to people's homes for a bespoke performance experience. The artists take inspiration for their stories from the hosts of the home they will be performing at on Saturday 17 October. 30 of these tailored performances will take place simultaneously around London.

Following the 30 performances on Saturday 17 October, Theatre Royal Stratford East will host a symposium examining case studies from the industry which have seen theatre or other types of performance happening in people's homes on Monday 19 October between 10am-4pm, with Home Theatre being one of the examples. The day will aim to encourage peer to peer learning between industry professionals through exploring different ways of working and looking at the artistic and political motivations behind producing this work.

Theatre Royal Stratford East has invited a variety of organisations that have produced similar work in homes across the world to take part and share their learnings at the symposium. Representatives from National Theatre of Scotland, South African State Theatre, Ramallah Dance Company (Palestine) and Birmingham Repertory Theatre are confirmed to attend the event as speakers. Each speaker will discuss their comparable projects, including National Theatre of Scotland discussing their Home project, which launched in 2006, Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival discussing their Miniatures project, South African State Theatre talking through their respective Home Theatre venture, amongst others.

The event will be held at Theatre Royal Stratford East and open to general public to attend. Tickets cost £10 and £5 concession. For more information visit www.stratfordeast.com/hometheatre or email hometheatreuk@stratfordeast.com.
