Conversation Starters, Tampa Repertory Theatre and Creative Loafing's series of staged readings of new plays, continues with Dog Act, a post-apocalyptic vaudeville by Liz Duffy Adams. The reading will take place on February 13that 7:30pm in the Creative Loafing Space, 1911 N. 13th Street, Tampa, Florida 33605. There will be a discussion with the cast and director after the reading. Patrons can purchase tickets at TampaRep.org/Dog or at the door on the night of the performance, starting at 6:30pm.

Dog Act follows Zetta Stone, a traveling performer, and her companion Dog, a young man undergoing a voluntary species demotion, as they walk through the wilderness of the former Northeast U.S. with their little troupe. They are heading toward a gig in China, if they can find it-and if they can survive to reach it. A theatrical, darkly comic variation on the classic doomsday genre - the post-apocalyptic wilderness was never funnier.

Robert Hurwitt, writing in the San Francisco Chronicle, praised the play as "peppered with astonishing and exhilarating eruptions of storytelling and wondrous plays within the play." Chad Jones (Oakland Tribune) noted that "Adams spins language like a juggler twirls chain saws. What could be dangerous and lumbering becomes deft and surprisingly graceful... Dog Act is an unusual, challenging play that creates its own rules but honors the oldest rule of all: good storytelling is its own reward."

Adams, a prolific playwright and New Dramatists alumna, has received a Women of Achievement Award, Lillian Hellman Award, New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, Will Glickman Award, Weston Playhouse Music-Theater Award, and MacDowell Colony residencies. Her work has also been produced or developed at the Humana Festival, Portland Center Stage, and Syracuse Stage, among others.

Dog Act, directed by Matthew Frankel, features a fine ensemble of actors: Isabel Natera (Zetta), Eddie Gomez (Dog), Erin Foster (Jojo), Melissa Granke (Vera), and Jakob Nordstrom (Coke).
