Insight Theatre Company's 12th season and 3rd year as a .ZACK resident arts organization kicks off March 28 - April 14 with the musical classic Daddy Long Legs at The Marcelle Theatre in Grand Center. "Daddy Long Legs is a perfect show for us to launch our 12th season themed 'A RIOT OF THE HEART!'" explains Insight's Artistic Director Maggie Ryan. "This delightful romantic story centers on a young Jane Austen style woman of wit and determination, and her secret benefactor. Their correspondence demonstrates the intrigue, the mystery and the joy of falling in love. This delightful and amusing musical Gem will kindle the fires of the heart. It is the perfect catalyst for 'A Riot of the Heart'."

Based on the classic novel which inspired the 1955 movie starring Fred Astaire, Daddy Long Legs is a beloved "rags-to-riches" tale of newfound love in the spirit of Jane Austen, The Brontë Sisters and "Downton Abbey." Featuring the music and lyrics by Tony Award-nominated composer/lyricist, Paul Gordon (Jane Eyre) and Tony-winning librettist/director, John Caird (Les Misérables), it stars renowned singer Terry Barber and local favorite Jen Theby Quinn in leading roles. Ryan will direct this production with Scott Schoonover, Artistic Director of Union Ave Opera, as the Musical Director. Schoonover directs a small combo to accompany the beautiful songs that fill this production.

Over the past eleven years, Insight has produced high quality plays and musicals with the intent to entertain, inspire, and reveal the complexity of the human spirit. In doing so, they have garnered numerous accolades, including a total of 57 nominations and 20 wins from the St. Louis Theater Circle, the Kevin Kline Awards and BroadwayWorld.com Awards. 2018 St. Louis Theater Circle nominations include:

Pete Winfrey, The Importance of Being Earnest, Outstanding Actor in a Comedy

Jennifer Theby Quinn, Silent Sky, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama

Rob Lippert, Silent Sky, Outstanding Lighting Design in a Play

James Blanton, Silent Sky, Outstanding Sound Design in a Play

As a theatre company that prides itself on producing both timeless classics and contemporary works that offer an honest and hopeful view of our world, they are pleased to announce the remainder of their 2019 lineup:

THE REVOLUTIONISTS - June 27 to July 14

The Marcelle Theatre

By Lauren Gunderson

THE REVOLUTIONISTS is a brutal comedic quartet about four very real women who lived boldly in France during the French Revolution's Reign of Terror (1793-1794). Playwright Olympe De Gouge, assassin Charlotte Corday, and former queen (and fan of ribbons) Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat, loose their heads, and try to beat back the extremist insanity in revolutionary Paris. This grand and dream-tweaked comedy is about violence and legacy, feminism and terrorism, art and how we actually go about changing the world.

It a true story. Or total fiction. Or a play about a play. Or a raucous resurrection that ends in a song and a scaffold.

SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE - August 29 - Sept 15

The Grandel

The stage play by Tom Stoppard, Lee Hall, Marc Normand, adapted from the award winning film.

Young Will Shakespeare has writer's block... the deadline for his new play is fast approaching but he's in desperate need of inspiration. That is, until he finds his muse - Viola. This beautiful young woman is Will's greatest admirer and will stop at nothing (including breaking the law) to appear in his next play.

Against a bustling background of mistaken identity, ruthless scheming and backstage theatrics, Will's love for Viola quickly blossoms and inspires him to write his greatest masterpiece.

As Viola states: "I must have poetry in my live, and adventure, and love---A RIOT OF THE HEART"

One of the facets that makes Insight unique is that in addition to producing artistically excellent works, they offer students positions as interns in their professional company so that they can learn all aspects of theatre production and benefit from the expertise of professional actors, designers and directors. This summer, their interns will also present their annual Theatre for Young Audiences Show (TBD). Past productions have included Madagascar - A Musical Adventure!, James and the Giant Peach, Seussical, Charlotte's Web, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, Alice in Wonderland and Free to Be, You and Me. Students interested in applying for this internship can do so by submitting a resume through a form on their website by May 1, 2019.
