The Sioux Falls Arts Council is hosting the first in an on-going series of networking events called ARTS Connect on May 25 from 4 to 7 PM at Prairie Berry Eastbank.

The mixer is part of a larger effort to foster connectivity and communication within the arts community which the SFAC announced in its 2017-2018 Action Plan, revealed in March.

"There is a significant lack of communication and connectivity within our local arts community; our new focus on arts coordination and support will help foster that," says Kara Dirkson, Executive Director of the SFAC.

ARTS Connect mixers will be held quarterly and each will have a different focus. The theme of the first mixer is the formation of a consortium to help different types of artists and arts organizations collaborate.

"We'd really like to see Sioux Falls embrace the concept of 'big arts' which means that ALL of the arts--music, live theater, dance, literary and visual arts--are important parts of our arts ecosystem," explains Dirkson.

ARTS Connect mixers are free to attend and open to anyone involved in or interested in the local arts community.
