Brighton Beach Memoirs Photos - Broadway

As BroadwayWorld reported last week, the legendary playwright Neil Simon passed away at age 91 due to complications from pneumonia. Today, BroadwayWorld remembers Neil Simon with a look back on some photos from our archives.

Gingold Theatrical Group (David Staller, Artistic Director)'s 13th Season of Project Shaw continued on February 19th with Pygmalion, one of Shaw's most beloved plays, the basis for the musical, My Fair Lady (returning to Broadway later this season!). Artistic Director David Staller directed.

Marjorie Johnson - who played the title role in Colman Domingo's DOT during its premiere engagement at the Actors Theatre of Louisville's HUMANA FESTIVAL earlier this year - will return to the role when DOT has its NY debut at Vineyard Theatre (108 E. 15 St.). Directed by multiple Tony Award winner, Susan Stroman - returning to The Vineyard for the first time since she directed the theater's acclaimed world premiere of THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS - DOT begins previews February 4, 2016 prior to opening February 23. The Old Globe/University of San Diego Graduate Theatre Program opened William Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale on Nov. 7. The production runs through Nov. 14 at the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre. Production photos have been released and appear below.

The Drama League (Jano Herbosch, President; Gabriel Shanks, Executive Director), announced the nominations for the 2009-10 Drama League Awards today at Sardi's with the help of Broadway stars Kelsey Grammer (La Cage Aux Folles) and Bebe Neuwirth (The Addams Family). The 76th Annual Drama League Awards Ceremony and Luncheon will take place on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 12:00pm at the Grand Ballroom of the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square. The event will be co-hosted by Vanessa Williams (Sondheim on Sondheim) and Michael Urie (The Temperamentals).

B.J. Jones directs. The production will run through November 29. Opening night was October 14.

It was announced earlier this month that the new musical VANITIES will receive an original cast album. The three-woman cast of the show, which recently performed its New York premiere Off-Broadway at Second Stage Theatre, headed into studio yesterday to record the album for Sh-K-Boom Records.

The smash hit Off-Broadway musical,' Dames at Sea opens the Saint Michael's Playhouse summer 2009 season Tuesday, June 16, and runs through June 27, starring Broadway musical talent top to bottom. Tickets for the show are discounted 20% through the run of the show if bought as part of a four-play season subscription. Performances of 'Dames' are Tuesday, June 16 through Saturday, June 20, at 8 p.m. each evening and Saturday, June 20, and Saturday, June 27, at 2 p.m., on the stage of the McCarthy Arts Center on the campus of Saint Michael's College.
