'Urinetown: The Musical' opened on Broadway in 2001, but its path from lyricist Greg Kotis traveling Europe, encountering a pay toilet, getting an idea for a story, joining with Mark Hollman, writing the lyrics together, Hollman writing the music, previewing the show at the New York's Fringe Festival, and getting it on Broadway, was filled with pitfalls. Mainly, producers were turned off by the title.

The Theatre Group at SBCC opens the 17/18 season with Cole Porter's sparkling musical, HIGH SOCIETY, July 12-29 in the Garvin Theatre. 

The Theatre Group at SBCC will continue the 16/17 season with the hilarious farce, A FLEA IN HER EAR, a new version of Georges Feydeau's farce by David Ives, Directed by R. Michael Gros, March 1-18, 2017 in the Garvin Theatre.

The cult classic musical Reefer Madness, with book and lyrics by Kevin Murphy and book and music by Dan Studney, was presented in concert at 54 Below on April 19 and 20, featuring original cast members from the production and movie, Christian Campbell, John Kassir, Harry S. Opening Night is Thursday, February 4.
