A new play by Conor McPherson

May 1822, rural Ireland. The defrocked Reverend Berkeley arrives at the crumbling former glory of Mount Prospect House to accompany seventeen-year-old Hannah to England. She is to be married off to a Marquis in order to resolve the debts of her mother’s estate. However, compelled by the strange voices that haunt his beautiful young charge and a fascination with the psychic current that pervades the house, Berkeley proposes a séance, the consequences of which are catastrophic.

She says that sometimes, while she plays the piano, she can hear someone… singing. Or crying. I forget which.

Set around a haunted house hemmed in by a restive, starving populace, Conor McPherson’s new play weaves Ireland’s troubled colonial history into a transfixing story about the search for love, the transcendental and the circularity of time. His last production for the National was the Tony Award-winning The Seafarer.

All of you have a shared capacity to apprehend the beyond. And you perhaps more than any of them have the darkest instinct for second sight.

We're at that point in the season, folks, when things on INTRUDERS are starting to piece themselves together. Next week's episode is the finale (how can this be?!) and The Veil hiding Qui Reverti is slowly being lifted. More than plot progression, though, there's some serious character development going on this week, and it's awesome. All these developments can be a lot to handle, though. I get it. But the creative team has faith in us to follow along, and I have faith in us, too! Just in case things have gotten a little jumbled, let's break this thing down, character by character. (more...)

Glagoslav Releases A HISTORY OF BELARUS by Lubov BazanGlagoslav Releases A HISTORY OF BELARUS by Lubov Bazan
by BWW News Desk - Oct 30, 2014

Rare materials on Belarus are a potential treasure trove for the English language reader. A blank spot on the map for many, Belarus is an undiscovered mystery in the heart of Europe - undiscovered, because little has been published on the country's history and current affairs, and the origin of the ethnic group that calls itself 'Belarusians'. Author Lubov Bazan attempts to uplift The Veil of secrecy surrounding Belarus and answer an important question of the ethnogenesis of the Belarusians. Unique in its ongoing struggle for independence, throughout its history Belarus has been deprived of this luxury by being continuously included in various state formations such as Kievan Rus', the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Kingdom of Poland, the Russian Empire and later the Soviet Union. 'A History of Belarus' is a thorough chronological narrative that covers major milestones of Belarus's journey into the 21st century. Lubov Bazan gives her readers plenty of leeway to form their own conclusions about the historical material presented. By incorporating different theoretical viewpoints on fundamental issues such as the ethnic background of the Belarusian people and formation of their national identity, the origins of the language, and the historically complex religious composition of the country, Bazan offers a platform for discussion. 'Before You Tie the Sacred Knot' by Dr. Angela B. Chester is Released'Before You Tie the Sacred Knot' by Dr. Angela B. Chester is Released
by BWW News Desk - Aug 7, 2014

'Before You Tie the Sacred Knot' by Dr. Angela B. Chester provides readers with information and tools on how to effectively build a marriage that will last by discussing topics and concerns that cause the most apprehension towards marriage, as well as encourage continued compatibility. According to studies done by Brigham Young University 'the average person who participated in a premarital prevention program was significantly better off afterwards than 79% of people who did not participate. Stated differently, the average participant in a premarital program tends to experience about a 30% increase in measures of outcome success.' But how does at home therapy work, and how can it be a smart and beneficial choice? It starts the conversation from a different neutral perspective. The questions aren't stated as an accusation so no one is forced to be defensive. 'This guide works to show readers how to ask the important questions about topics concerning relationships, finances, or parenting, while also giving them tools with chapters on conflict resolution and red flags,' says Dr. Angela Chester. 'Some young couples more hesitant to get married because of recent divorce rates. When you empower the couples by discussing the uncomfortable subjects such as religion, children, money, and in-laws, you take the potential for a break down in the marriage away. By removing The Veil they allow themselves to come to an agreed upon solution instead.' When asked about the Christian perspective of the book, Dr. Chester says, 'Before You Tie the Sacred Knot', includes biblical based exercises for both the bride and groom. Self-reflection is important for the individual and the Christian respectively. One should never stop growing. One constant every marriage should have is continued betterment of self, your relationship and your walk of a Christian.' 'Before You Tie the Sacred Knot' is available for sale online at Amazon.com and other channels, as well as it's secular or non-Christian counterpart 'Before You Tie The Knot: A Counseling Workbook for the D.I.Y. Couple.' Both books are featured on book tour from August 2014 to January 2015. Locations include Texas, Virginia and Vancouver. About the Author Dr. Angela Butts Chester, is a Pastoral Counselor, Author, and Speaker. As Founder of New Life Pastoral Counseling in Long Beach, CA., she provides counseling for Life Stages (premarital counseling, divorce, marriage issues and enrichment, etc.) and Life Transitions (depression, loss and grief, etc.) for adults. Angela Chester International allows Dr. Chester to speak and tour to a larger audience; boot camps and mastermind sessions conducted several times a year. Her comments have appeared on CNN, She Knows, The Man Registry, and The Los Angeles Times, just to name a few. She is also the host of Modern Living with Dr. Angela. (more...)

The verdict is in: BBC America has a hit on its hands with “Intruders.” The new paranormal sci-fi thriller, based off of the Michael Marshall Smith novel of the same name, wastes no time launching viewers into the action. While many genre shows (and at it's heart, “Intruders” is very much a genre show) overload audiences with difficult to follow plots and science references that fly over the heads of even the most educated viewers, Glen Morgan and his team manage to walk that fine line between over-complicated and painfully bland, creating an intelligently intricate show that encourages viewer participation…and that is also just plain fun to watch.
