The Other Theatre Company (TOTC) announces The Return of the smash hit with a queer twist Barney the Elf, written by company member Bryan Renaud, music arrangements by Jermaine Hill, original direction by Carin Silkaitis, additional direction and choreography by Tommy Rivera-Vega, music direction by Ali Goodman, November 30 - January 1, 2017 at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Lincoln Ave. Previews are Tuesday, Nov. 29 and Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 8 p.m. Opening night is Thursday, Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. The performance schedule is Thursdays at 8 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 3 and 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Additional shows on Tuesday, Dec. 20 and 27, and Wednesday, Dec. 21. The Parable of the Prodigal Son is one of the famous parables of Jesus which appears in the Bible. In the story, a father has two sons. The younger son asks for his inheritance and after wasting his fortune, becomes destitute. He returns home with the intention of begging his father to be made one of his hired servants, expecting his relationship with his father is likely severed. The father welcomes him back and celebrates his return. The older son refuses to participate, and the father reminds the older son that one day he will inherit everything. But, they should still celebrate The Return of the younger son because he was lost and is now found. (more...)

Serenbe Playhouse, recipient of the prestigious American Theatre Wing grant, and recently honored with the most Suzi Bass Awards for a musical in Atlanta (Miss Saigon), is pleased to present The Return of The Snow Queen, based on the original story by Hans Christian Andersen, and adapted by Rachel Teagle. The show was originally directed by Brian Clowdus and is getting a 2016 restaging by Ryan Oliveti with choreography by Bubba Carr. The show opens on December 1 and runs to December 30, only. Seattle Opera rings in the New Year with some of the most glorious music in all of opera: Verdi's La traviata, the original Moulin Rouge. German Stage Director Peter Konwitschny has created an "excitingly rebellious" (A Younger Theater) production that takes an uncompromising look at moral hypocrisy. In this story, practically all of Paris rushes in as voyeurs to watch the demise of the town's dying "It Girl"-a modern-day courtesan named Violetta. The crowd, withmore concern for their entertainment than her health, foists a new admirer on her: a young, socially awkward bookworm named Alfredo. While love seems like it could be a distraction, there's ultimately no denying the darkness that descends on Verdi's heroine. Presented without intermission, the "non-stop music keeps the audience riveted throughout" (Express, UK).   (more...)
