BWW Review: Musical Theatre West Revisits the Epic RAGTIME in Grand Splendor
by Michael Quintos - Feb 14, 2020

Fifteen years after its first production of the musical, Musical Theatre West revisits the Tony Award-winning musical RAGTIME for only its second time---smartly reviving the musical in a similarly lavish production that beautifully converges the show's classic staging and vibe with wonderfully integrated 21st Century tech upgrades that help elevate the material rather than hinder its storytelling. Under the enlightened direction of Paul David Bryant (who also provides the production's high-energy choreography), this brand new, spectacularly engrossing production bellows with an emotional fervor and is one of my favorite iterations of this musical I have seen in recent years. This local revival---which continues performances at the Carpenter Center for the Performing Arts in Long Beach through February 23, 2020---is a feast for the senses.

BWW Review: A HUMAN BEING, OF A SORT at Williamstown Theatre Festival Examines the Complex Notion of Freedom
by Marc Savitt - Jul 5, 2019

A HUMAN BEING, OF A SORT represents an examination of what may lie beneath the surface. It suggests we look more closely at a reality complicated by context. It presents many of the paradoxes seemingly present in human interaction. It is a period piece but also quite timely and relevant. We find ourselves questioning the constructs of control, freedom, power, faith, and the notion of perception versus reality. Is it possible to know what lies in the hearts and minds of men or any other creature? Can we ever truly know, why the caged bird sings?

David Karpinski, Executive Director of the Foundation, adds: 'IFP Films, In Focus Brands and I have funded the venture and I have separately launched the Parkhurst Field Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission it is to chronicle its rich history dating back to its opening in 1906. Bob Manasier, Producer/Director of IFP Films, states: 'We decided to co-develop this program and add it to our growing slate of original productions because of the plethora of positive storylines about the integrating power of sports, the great melting pot history of America encapsulated at these fields, the commitment and passion that Dave and his group bring to this and to further utilize our affiliations to build a turnkey system through In Focus Brands for other communities to build economic development on.'
