It was just back in late-May when we reported that Roger Rees, then starring in THE VISIT on Broadway opposite Chita Rivera had departed the show on a medical leave. Today, we are sad to share the news that the star passed away on Friday evening, at home in New York at 71. All right, guys, it's confession time: there was a time, when I was but a young lass, that I wanted desperately to be Keira Knightley. She was in Pirates of the Caribbean (which I may or may not be able to quote from beginning to end), she was ridiculously talented, she wasn't that much older than me, and she was British (which, for some strange reason, I always wanted to be when I was young). Then, in 2006, she was nominated for an Academy Award for her role of Elizabeth Bennett in Pride and Prejudice, and that made her even more awesome. As I got older, I began to recognize how good she actually was in all of those movies - a thought which ran through my mind once again when I saw her performance in The Imitation Game, for which she received her second Oscar nomination. NEW YORK, NY — On Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 7:30pm, violinist and artistic director Gil Morgenstern's acclaimed Reflections Series International will present its final concert of the 2014-2015 season, “Nature's Bounty,” at Avenues: The World School (259 Tenth Ave.). The program will feature Morgenstern with violinist Harumi Rhodes, violist Kathryn Lockwood, cellist Astrid Schween, and percussionist Yousif Sheronick, performing music and text inspired by composers' personal encounters with both natural and man-made landscapes; immortalizing them through works of unparalleled beauty and drama. This artistic journey, from flowing crystalline streams in China to the haunting terrain of the Middle East to the wide-open prairies of the American Great Plains, includes music by Antonin Dvo?ák, Zhou Long, and Riyad El-Soumbati, along with text from the works of Mary Shelly, Naguib Mahfouz, and Gaetano Cipolla, narrated by Obie Award-winning actor Bill Camp. Northlight Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans, presents the world premiere of Shining Lives: A Musical. Directed by Jessica Thebus and developed through Northlight's Interplay Series, the musical is adapted from the Northlight-commissioned play These Shining Lives.
