The Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts (PTPA) will present Eight-time Grammy Award-winning jazz icon HERB ALPERT and his wife, the internationally renowned Grammy Award-winning singer LANI HALL on Sunday, October 12 at 7:00 PM. An Evening with Herb Alpert and Lani Hall will feature songs from their third album together, Steppin' Out, with their band, Michael Shapiro on drums & percussion, Hussain Jiffry on bass and Bill Cantos on keyboards and vocals. The program will include a jazz set sprinkled with Brasilian flavors and songbook favorites such as: 'Puttin' on the Ritz,' 'Moondance,' 'Let's Face the Music & Dance,' 'Fever,' 'La Vie en Rose,' a nostalgic Tijuana Brass medley and many others. Legendary trumpet-and-voice duo Herb Alpert and Lani Hall bring their unique mix of jazz, world and American pop music to Pacific Symphony for the final concert of the 2014-15 Pops Series. Joining musical forces in 2006, each half of this musical power couple brings an impressive résumé to the table. As a solo artist and leader of the Tijuana Brass, Alpert has sold more than 72 million records and placed 28 albums on the Billboard charts, including five at No. 1. His 2014 album, “Steppin' Out,” earned him his ninth Grammy Award, and in 2013, he was honored with the National Medal of Arts. His wife and music partner, Hall, rose to fame in 1966 as the lead singer of Sergio Mendes' group, Brasil '66. The two met and became friends when Brasil '66 was signed to A&M records by its co-founder, Alpert. Hall has the distinction of recording more than 22 albums in three different languages, four alongside her husband, and she earned a Grammy for her album, “Es Facil Amar.” (more...)

See how New York soldiers used British military drill to put their muskets and fowlers to use against their enemy. Smell the sawdust and watch the wood chips fly as carpenters hew down logs to build another sled to keep the train of supplies rolling into Canada. Visit the Continental Store to see how the American army supplied its troops or pick-up a needle and thread to help sew mattresses for soldiers at the Fort's tailor shop. The must-experience living history event takes place 10 am - 4 pm, Saturday and Sunday, March 15-16. The cost is $10 per person and payable at the gate. There was a seismic event and emotional roller coaster onstage Thursday night at the 92nd Street Y, in the Kaufmann Concert Hall theatre. Her name is DEBBIE ..... DEBORAH VOIT. It was the first performance in New York City of a piece called VOIGT LESSONS. The piece was co-created by Voight, Terrence McNally and Francesca Zambello, years ago, at Glimmerglass and the diva told us that it has been performed 'very few times, let alone in New York City.' Remember the anti-folk scene, born in the mid-1980s, when songwriters with guitars took the stage at little clubs and sang songs that at first seemed like folk songs, but actually turned folk on it's head, trading trademark earnestness for darker, more ironic tales? Thus was created a new direction in acoustic songwriting, giving rise to such talented acts as Bongwater and Regina Spektor. Donna Vivino, who starred for two years as 'Elphaba' in the First National Tour of WICKED and also in the role on Broadway, just released a jazzy new album called 'Beautiful Dreamer' via Ghostlight Records. This is Donna's first album, which came about in a spur-of-the-moment collaboration with her father, Jerry Vivino, who is part of Conan's Basic Cable Band -- the house band for O'Brien's late night show on TBS. Minneapolis Musical Theatre (MMT) concludes its 2014-2015 season with Happy Days-A New Musical making its area premiere April 24-May 17, 2015 at Hennepin Theatre Trust's New Century Theatre. Based on the hit ABC television show "Happy Days," the musical features a book by the series' original creator Garry Marshall, with music and lyrics by Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe winner Paul Williams. Happy Days is directed by longtime Twin Cities' director and actor Joe Hendren working with MMT's artistic director, Christian Unser. (more...)
