The Public Theater announced a two-week extension today for the critically acclaimed FATHER COMES HOME FROM THE WARS (PARTS 1, 2 & 3), a world premiere play written by Public Theater Master Writer Chair Suzan-Lori Parks. Directed by Jo Bonney, FATHER COMES HOME FROM THE WARS (PARTS 1, 2 & 3) began previews on Tuesday, October 14 in the Anspacher Theater and was originally scheduled to close on Sunday, November 16. The Pasadena Playhouse (Artistic Director Sheldon Epps, and Executive Director Elizabeth Doran) embarks on a new initiative titled Mi Historia, Mi Manera, which aims to build a model of artistic co-creation between its institution and Latina/o adults, artists, and communities in the San Gabriel Valley. Mi Historia, Mi Manera is supported by a generous grant from the James Irvine Foundation, and is an extension of The Playhouse's long standing Wells Fargo Theatrical Diversity Project, founded in 2005 by Artistic Director, Sheldon Epps. The Diversity Project is dedicated to promoting culturally diverse programming at The Pasadena Playhouse through the active engagement of artists, staff, volunteers and audiences of all ages, genders, orientations and ethnicities in exploring and celebrating the wealth of creativity in our world today. Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Music Director Jeffrey Kahane serves as musical 'tour guide' for LACO's annual 'Discover' program, which this season features a special one-night-only exploration of Mozart's incomparable and deeply moving Requiem in D minor with special guests Alison King, soprano; Emily Fons, alto; Nicholas Phan, tenor; Aubrey Allicock, bass; and the Los Angeles Master Chorale, on Thursday, February 19, 2015, 8 pm, at Pasadena's Ambassador Auditorium. The evening is designed to lead patrons to a greater understanding of Mozart's musical capstone and to appreciate the work with 'new ears.' Kahane, lauded for his 'eloquence' (The New York Times), explores a different work each year for LACO's annual Discover concert. According to LA Opening Nights, 'Some conductors are born educators, and Jeffrey Kahane is one of them.' The Geffen Playhouse's Westwood footprint is expanding. The not-for-profit's largest growth came nearly a decade ago with the renovation of the original 10886 Le Conte address and opening of the adjoining Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater at the Geffen Playhouse. The last few years have seen an increase from five to eight season productions plus added special events and augmented education and community outreach programs. The result: a significant increase in demand for real estate in one of the busiest commercial districts in Los Angeles. (more...)

After a highly successful reading at Covent Garden's Bates Theatre this past July, the new play The Lady Revealed, will receive another starry reading on Monday, March 16th (3PM) at New Dramatists (424 West 44th Street). Based on the life and works of A.L. Rowse, the reading will feature Bianca Amato, David Hywel-Baynes, Geoffrey Beevers, Patricia Conolly, Anthony Heald, Merritt Janson, T. Ryder Smith, Sam Underwood and Jake McCready. Written by Dr. Andrew B. Harris the reading will be directed by Illana Stein (Associate Director Tamburlaine the Great at Theatre for a New Audience) along with Broadway's Belasco Theatre manager Steffi Wallis working with New Dramatists as producer.
