What is it like to be the son of a feminist hero? What is it like to be his mother? "Perdita" is the compelling story of two generations, two genders, two experiences of the same pioneering life. Perdita and her son travel to the four corners of the world and to the very edge of life to find out what it costs to be an inspiration. "Perdita" exposes the good works as well as the lovers, heartbreaks and the difficult balance of family life and career. The play is about the private side of a proud woman's public life and about what it cost her child to be with her while she lived it.

BWW Review: Sweet Yet Powerful WINTER'S TALE from Seattle Shakes
by Jay Irwin - Sep 12, 2016

There are some productions of Shakespeare which need all the flashy costumes and sets and transplanting to non-traditional times and places in order to make the show shine. And then there are productions like the outstanding production of "The Winter's Tale" currently being offered from Seattle Shakespeare Company where they've assembled such a talented cast and crew, innately fluent with the meaning of the show, who only require a few chairs and platforms and where the flash would just get in the way. It's those shows that remind us why we love theater when a group of actors can mesmerize us with their words. (more...)

BWW Exclusive: Dame Judi Dench Discusses Shakespeare, Her Passion, CATS, Potential Broadway Return
by Matt Tamanini - May 27, 2016

Only some are able to ever identify their specific passion, far fewer are able to achieve, and only a select handful are able to make their passion their life's work; Judi Dench is one of those few. When I asked her why, despite a career spanning more than five and a half decades, and nearly every major acting award the world over, she continues to return to the plays of William Shakespeare, in a tone exceedingly gentle, yet slightly dismayed that the question need even be asked, she said, 'Cause that's my passion, Matt.' Photo Coverage: First look at Actors' Theatre of Columbus' THE WINTER'S TALE
by Jerri Shafer - Aug 4, 2016

Appalachia and the Bard collide in a night of live music and theatre. Sometimes dark tragedy, sometimes uproarious comedy, 'The Winter's Tale' sets the story of one of Shakespeare's more disparate and modern works, at the turn of the 19th & 20th century, between the coal mining country of Eastern Kentucky and the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. Inspired in part by the album 'Jean Ritchie & Doc Watson at Folk City' and heavily flavored with traditional mountain and American folk music performed by the cast, the play will celebrate the culture and the music of Appalachia, a region with strong cultural, musical and linguistic ties to Shakespeare's England, with a tragedy and joy that is uniquely and entertainingly American.
