Long Island's young dancers now have an exclusive opportunity to meet and train with Yaroslav (Slava) Fadeyev, renowned former soloist with Kirov Ballet of Mariinsky Theater and honored alumni of Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet.  Mr. Fadeyev, Artistic Director of the Fadeyev Ballet, has opened his academy classes here on Long Island for an Open House weekend of free ballet, pointe, modern and character classes for children of all levels.  Fadeyev Ballet Open House is scheduled for Saturday, December 5th and Sunday, December 6th, 2015.  Fadeyev Ballet is located at the studios at Dany Holdstein Two Worlds in Greenvale at 340 Wheatley Plaza.  For more information and the full Open House schedule go to FadeyevBallet.Eventbrite.com or contact Fadeyev Ballet at 516.360.6502 or FadeyevBallet@gmail.com. Your intrepid correspondent saw two plays this weekend, Andrew Case's THE RANT at the Gamm Theatre in Pawtucket and NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH by Alan Ayckbourn Upstage at 2nd Story Theatre in Warren. Each of these plays dealt a violent death at the hands of the police. THE RANT is a powerful, drama about the dark recesses of murder and unknowability, while NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH is a light-hearted romp through the dark recesses of middle-class paranoia. I enjoyed them both very much, but then I'm middle-class with dark recesses of my own. (more...)

San Francisco Opera today announced new details of its soon-to-be-completed $21 million renovation of 38,000 square feet in the Veterans Building's fourth floor and basement named the Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera. Adjacent to the War Memorial Opera House, the Wilsey Center for Opera is scheduled to open in late February 2016, and consolidates most of the Company's operations into a single campus in the vibrant and emerging arts district of San Francisco's Civic Center. The 1932 Beaux Arts-designed Veterans Building recently reopened in September following a 26-month, City-financed $156 million seismic retrofit and renovation of the historic Herbst Theatre, Green Room, meeting rooms, offices and corridors throughout the first three floors. General Director Plácido Domingo has announced the repertory and artist roster for the company's 2016/17 season. Created by Mr. Domingo in collaboration with Music Director James Conlon and President and CEO Christopher Koelsch, the season will include six mainstage productions and a classic musical presented at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
