BWW Review: Theatrical Wonders of Wonder Appear in MKE Ballet's Astonishing ALICE
by Peggy Sue Dunigan - May 20, 2016

If ever a story captured the wonder of childhood dreams and fantasies, then Lewis Carroll's novel 'Alice's Adventures In Wonderland' travels to this hidden places in the heart and mind. Milwaukee Ballet's absolutely astonishing production of Alice (in wonderland) transports Carroll's magical stories to the stage in captivating theatrical style. Septime Webre's choreography, Liz Vandal's concept and costume design, James Kronzer's scenic design and Clifton Taylor's lighting design recreate Carroll's surreal world with those wonders of wonders completely intact. A ballet conceived for The Washington Ballet in 2012, Artistic Director Michael Pink imported the lush, full length ballet for his brilliant company, the Ballet Program II and students of the Milwaukee Ballet School and Academy. by Shari Barrett - Jun 10, 2016

It's fairly common that people will compare their own circumstances with other people's lives and come up feeling short, especially in the romance or financial departments in their own relationship. But as much as we may admire what others appear to have that we do not, when we learn the truth on what goes on behind closed doors, even the most wonderful of relationships can turn out to be not what it appears to be, proving the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence… or boat for that matter. BWW Review: The MUNY'S Spectacular 42ND STREET
by Chris Gibson - Jul 9, 2016

If you missed The Muny's production of 42nd STREET, you missed a show that was an absolutely perfect fit for the wide open spaces its stage presents. The original Warner Bros. 1933 pre-production code film was a blend of behind the scenes melodrama and onstage eye-candy. It gave depression era audiences a chance to escape from their worries with Lloyd Bacon's direction of the story and Busby Berkley's show-stopping musical direction. And, that's the caliber of entertainment you'll find on stage at The MUNY. It's an extravaganza that verges on pure spectacle, with that enormous canvas worked to perfection; a snappy mix of what made the movie and the Broadway version so successful. (more...)

TAM's BARBER OF SEVILLE Reminds of Beaumarchais' Modernity
by Carla Maria Verdino-Sllwold - Jul 24, 2016

The Theater at Monmouth's new production of Pierre de Beaumarchais' delightful, provocative 18th century comedy, The Barber of Seville, (in translation by Elizabeth Griffith) sparkles not only with saucy wit, but also with a striking modernity. The first play from the French master's Figaro trilogy is a comedy of manners about marriage with the underlying theme - embodied in the wily Figaro - of class conflict. And though the historical context is Enlightenment France, Rosine's quest for self-determination and love and Figaro's cheerfully impudent challenging of a hierarchical society ring with relevance.
