Based on the novel by Manuel Puig

Winner of seven Tony Awards including Best Musical, Kiss of the Spider Woman explores the complex relationship between two men caged together in an Argentinean prison. Valentin is a tough political revolutionary undergoing torture. Molina is an unabashedly gay man serving time for deviant behavior. Molina recounts to Valentin his favorite movie-musical fantasies, and it becomes a mental refuge for both as the lines of fantasy and reality become blurred. This compelling musical drama resonates love, longing and liberation.

BWW Reviews: The Who's TOMMY at Mad Cow TheatreBWW Reviews: The Who's TOMMY at Mad Cow Theatre
by Justin J Sacramone - Oct 8, 2014

Season 18 at the Mad Cow Theatre Company is here, and up first: THE WHO'S TOMMY. The 1993 Best Musical nominee is considered to be Broadway's first Rock Opera turned Rock Musical. Shows like Greenday's AMERICAN IDIOT, Stew's PASSING STRANGE, and, more recently, David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's HERE LIES LOVE all followed. But it was The Who that first took their concept rock album and turned it into a warm-blooded stage musical. In doing so they attracted a younger audience (that once looked at Musical Theatre as something their grandparents listened to on vinyl) to Broadway. (more...)

by Dennis Kucherawy - Oct 22, 2014

While reviewing What Makes a Man (WMAM), now playing at the Berkley Street Theatre, it's tempting to comment on what's not there, what could and should be there, rather than what is there. What is on display is a marvelous musical stage portrait of Charles Aznavour, the world renowned French singer/songwriter, actor and political activist/diplomat. A man of the world, he is capable of singing in five languages. One of the last surviving 'showmen,' he still is capable of filling the world's most prestigious concert halls. For example, a year ago he performed for the first time in 25 years at London's Royal Albert Hall. Demand was so great, a second concert was booked there for this past June. (more...)
