Snapdragon Productions today announce a UK tour of their acclaimed revival of Richard Bean's Toast, following a successful run at Park Theatre in 2014.  Matthew Kelly and Simon Greenall reprise their roles as Nellie and Cecil, with full cast to be announced soon.  The tour begins at the Rose Theatre Kingston from 4 - 13 February before playing eight further dates finishing at Nottingham Theatre Royal.  (more...)

As the world reflects on the centennial of World War I, Horizon Theatre Rep presents 'Culture Shock 1911-1922,' an evening of German Expressionist plays that were born of the age that gave birth to it. The production, conceived and directed by Rafael De Mussa, includes 'Sancta Susanna' (1911) by August Stramm, translated by Henry Marx; 'The Guardian of the Tomb' (1916) by Franz Kafka (Kafka's only play), translated by J. M. Ritchie; 'The Transfiguration' (1919) by Ernst Toller, translated by Edward Crankshaw; 'Ithaka' (1914) by Gottfried Benn, translated by J.M. Ritchie and 'Crucifixion' (1920) by Lothar Schreyer, translated by Mel Gordon. Performances will be today, September 4 to 21 (opens September 7) at Access Theater, 380 Broadway in TriBeCa. (more...)

In this taut 2013 theatrical adaptation of Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela's award winning-book, the apartheid regime's most notorious assassin and head of its death squad, Eugene de Kock (played by Matthew Marsh), sits opposite psychologist Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela (played Noma Dumezweni) in Pretoria Central Prison in 1997. Gobodo-Madikizela is a member of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission determined to understand his actions. She questions de Kock, who is sentenced to two life terms plus 212 years for crimes against humanity, murder, conspiracy to murder, attempted murder, assault, kidnapping, illegal possession of firearms, and fraud. The human condition of gays in contemporary Russia mirrors life in a phantasmagoric insane asylum. That's the view of a new play, 'That Queer Blind Silence' (www.thatqueerblindsilence.com) by emigre playwright Sophia Romma. Her political farce, written in English but in the style of Russian Expressionism, depicts the ordeals of a fictional figure skater whose character was inspired partly by the life and career of bronze medalist Johnny Weir. Underground International Voices of Theatre, in association with The O'Neill Film and Theatrical Foundation, will present the play's world premiere run August 5 to 23 at 13th Street Repertory Company, 50 West 13th Street, NYC, directed by John Beshaw-Farrell. Ten percent of ticket sales will be donated to Underground International Voices of Theatre to support that organization's efforts for equal rights of the LGBTQ community in the Russian Federation. Franaleo Productions will present the Off-Broadway premiere of Samuel J. Bernstein and Marguerite Krupp's Olympics Über Alles, beginning a limited engagement tomorrow, Wednesday August 27th at St. Luke's Theater (308 West 46th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues). Debra Whitfield directs a cast that features Jim DiMunno Tim Dowd, Michael Engberg, Amy Handra, Darrell Purcell, Joshua Quat, Stewart A. Schneck, and Jenn Susi. This limited run continues through September 21st only. Olympics Über Alles will have scenic and lighting design by Duane Pagano with costume design by Janice O'Donnell and sound and projections design by Paul Bourgeois. The South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) announces Broadway and Cabaret legend Barbara Cook will appear at its annual Gala on Sat., May 31. Ms. Cook's highly anticipated performance will take place at 9 p.m. following an elegant dinner in the SOPAC Loft at 6 p.m., coupled with an online and live auction of unique and precious gifts and experiences. Families will join the celebration during the day with a Super-Hero workshop by Kidville at 10:30 a.m. and a free performance by fun and funky musician Bobby Beetcut at noon. Seating is available for the gala dinner and Ms. Cook's performance, or for the performance only. The gala is being presented in support of SOPAC's Arts Education and Programming. (more...)

In this taut 2013 theatrical adaptation of Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela's award winning-book, the apartheid regime's most notorious assassin and head of its death squad, Eugene de Kock (played by Matthew Marsh), sits opposite psychologist Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela (played Noma Dumezweni) in Pretoria Central Prison in 1997. Gobodo-Madikizela is a member of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission determined to understand his actions. She questions de Kock, who is sentenced to two life terms plus 212 years for crimes against humanity, murder, conspiracy to murder, attempted murder, assault, kidnapping, illegal possession of firearms, and fraud.
