In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, Main Street Theater is finding ways to offer bits of relief to those in need. All 3 MST programs, the MainStage (plays for adults), the Theater for Youth (plays for families and school groups), and the Education & Outreach Department (classes and camps for kids), are reaching out to connect with the Houston community.

Theater for Youth actor Haley Hussey has volunteered her time to once again become the beloved character Fancy Nancy from the wildly popular series of children's books. (Ms. Hussey played Fancy Nancy in Main Street's 2016 production of Fancy Nancy Splendiferous Christmas). Pictured, left, is Fancy Nancy with a hurricane victim at the George R. Brown.

On Friday, September 1, Main Street Theater offered a FREE Hurricane Camp for ages 4 - 11 at its Rice Village home, providing parents a reprieve and more importantly, children the chance to get out of the house, use their imaginations, and be creative and silly in a safe environment. MST hosts classes and camps across the city year round so was able to mobilize its popular camp model quickly. Tuesday - Friday, Sept. 5 - 8, MST is offering deeply discounted camps for ages 4 - 11 at its Rice Village home and ages 12 - 15 at the Rec Room. Classical Theatre Company is graciously donating their space at Chelsea Market so that MST can offer more spots to campers.

MST's MainStage production of Enemies by Maxim Gorky is in rehearsals and will open the theater's 42nd Season. When performances begin on Sept. 9 in Rice Village, MST is encouraging audience members to bring nonperishable food items and diapers for Harvey victims in need. MST knows the need for supplies will continue for some time in Houston and hopes audiences will support the effort through the Oct. 15 run.

Main Street Theater provides theater experiences for all ages. Founded in 1975, our MainStage produces professional, intimate, literary plays for adults; our Theater for Youth produces professional, engaging productions based on children's literature for families and school groups, both in-house and on tour around Texas; and we offer Education and Outreach programs on-site and at satellite locations around the Greater Houston area for youth aged 4 - high school. We perform locally in 2 facilities: our Rice Village home on Times. Blvd., and as part of the MATCH (Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston) on Main Street.
