BWW Recap: Emotions are Expressed as a 5 (Not a 2.5) on This Week's PARENTHOODBWW Recap: Emotions are Expressed as a 5 (Not a 2.5) on This Week's PARENTHOOD
by Matt Smith - Oct 24, 2014

Last week, I said that PARENTHOOD writers were giving us a little too much too soon in terms of introducing new plot lines this close to the end of the series. This week, I take that back. While I'm still not quite sure where it might lead, the episode this week was very strong, and proves why we still need new storylines. It's 9 — well, 8 now — episodes left, but you gotta fill those episodes with something, some type of stuffing that isn't melancholy, reminiscent of series-finale over/undertones, and good material that keeps the viewers coming back until the end, so that the end will be that much more satisfying. This week provided good stuffing. (more...)

BWW Review: WHAT MAKES A MAN at the Berkley Street TheatreBWW Review: WHAT MAKES A MAN at the Berkley Street Theatre
by Dennis Kucherawy - Oct 22, 2014

While reviewing What Makes a Man (WMAM), now playing at the Berkley Street Theatre, it's tempting to comment on what's not there, what could and should be there, rather than what is there. What is on display is a marvelous musical stage portrait of Charles Aznavour, the world renowned French singer/songwriter, actor and political activist/diplomat. A man of the world, he is capable of singing in five languages. One of the last surviving 'showmen,' he still is capable of filling the world's most prestigious concert halls. For example, a year ago he performed for the first time in 25 years at London's Royal Albert Hall. Demand was so great, a second concert was booked there for this past June. (more...)

InDepth InterView: Stephen Trask Talks HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH, Neil Patrick Harris, Sequel Details, New Musicals & MoreInDepth InterView: Stephen Trask Talks HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH, Neil Patrick Harris, Sequel Details, New Musicals & More
by Pat Cerasaro - Oct 20, 2014

Today we are talking to the gifted composer and lyricist behind the earth-shattering score for Broadway's biggest recent hit, HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH, the versatile and passionate Stephen Trask. Shedding considerable light on the development of the idiosyncratic rock musical, Trask discusses his influences and the organic way in which the outre show developed from humble beginnings at downtown bar Squeezebox in the mid-1990s, to Off-Broadway hit at the turn of the new century all the way to the rapturously received feature film adaptation, and, now, the 2014 Broadway production. Trask also details his affection for Tony Award-winning lead actor Neil Patrick Harris and looks ahead to the new leading man donning the titular wig, Andrew Rannells. Additionally, Trask also shares news on the forthcoming sequel to HEDWIG currently being developed with John Cameron Mitchell and teases some of what we can expect from the hotly anticipated theatrical experience. Furthermore, Trask reflects on his own upbringing and musical influences and how that informed the composition of the score for HEDWIG, as well as his own favorite performers. Plus, Trask reflects on his fruitful career as a movie scorer in Hollywood and comments on his upcoming musical endeavors, including two original stage musicals - JUST THE BLACK KEYS, a real-life inspired original musical potentially involving Peter Askin and Michael Mayer, as well 15 MINUTES, a Studio 54-centric period piece written with Rick Elice - as well as much, much more. BWW Interview: Frances Fisher Discusses Last Night's Explosive RESURRECTIONBWW Interview: Frances Fisher Discusses Last Night's Explosive RESURRECTION
by Matt Tamanini - Oct 20, 2014

As more and more of the mystery unfolds on ABC's hit drama RESURRECTION, the secrets and emotions continue to build up. On last night's episode, Lucille, played by the fantastic Frances Fisher, couldn't hold in her feelings anymore, letting fly some verbal bombs that will surely have a long-lasting impact on the Langston family. On Friday, I spoke with Fisher about the episode, Lucille's relationship with recently returned-from-the-dead Mother-in-Law Margaret, and what's coming up for her character; and much like her Lucille last night, she had a lot to say! BWW Recap: Progress Made on This Week's PARENTHOODBWW Recap: Progress Made on This Week's PARENTHOOD
by Matt Smith - Oct 17, 2014

This season of PARENTHOOD has been definitely packed with enough drama, and the writers are brilliantly beginning to close up storylines while offering us new ones to keep us busy and immersed enough in the show that presumably we forget that it's ending in, like, December/January. It's a smart move, though as you'll see below, I think the new plot lines in the final episodes of the season — not to mention the season's shortened 13-episode run, which this week drops us down to just 9 (single digits, people!) — will seem a bit rushed given the time length.
