Exquisitely timed for the final run to the White House, Keegan Theatre 's production of 'What We're Up Against' is a whomping good time. BWW Review: Aptly Titled BEAUTIFUL - The Carole King Musical Charms OC
by Michael L. Quintos - Oct 6, 2016

Even without eye-popping special effects, a gimmicky storyline, or those oft-used literary or cinematic source materials, some stage musicals just manage to entertain by sheer likability alone. A big warm hug of a show that's brimming with lots of surprisingly snappy wit and, arguably, some of the previous century's most melodious pop hits, BEAUTIFUL---the Broadway stage musical based on the life of treasured Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Carole King---is a show that certainly lives up to its title. This charming, swiftly-paced bio-musical's first national tour continues performances at Orange County's Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa through October 16. (more...)

Harbourside Place to Present SHELL OF A MAN
by BWW News Desk - Oct 21, 2016

Local playwright Donna Carbone returns to Harbourside Place in Jupiter with another dinner theater presentation of her play, Shell of a Man. She originally brought Shell of a Man, the true story of one veterans' battle with PTSD, to Harbourside in September and the demand for tickets far exceeded available seating. The most often heard comment from the audience was "Riveting!" Carbone is passionate about the need to personalize PTSD. She believes that 15 years of war and world events have desensitized society to the needs of our veterans. In a recent interview, she said, "We are on the backside curve of PTSD awareness, so when I saw grown men in the audience trying to hide their tears, I felt hopeful that the message would stay with them long after the final curtain came down. Women cried openly. One audience member told me that he forgot he was watching a play. He believed that the real Robert Logan was on stage speaking to him and he was deeply moved." (more...)

BWW Review: Singer TORY STOLPER Brings Her Original Journey to Sterling's
by Don Grigware - Oct 18, 2016

My favorite part of the evening was the inclusion of the standards all of which are nicely suited to Stolper's voice and delivery. They were Sondheim's 'Move On' from Sunday in the Park with George. a gorgeous rendition of 'Something Good' sung originally by Julie Andrews in the film The Sound of Music, and lastly Carole King's 'Beautiful', all adding uber positive touches to Stolper's creative and personal journey thus far. She concluded as she had begun with Peter Pan, only this time with Scott Alan's lovely contemporary perspective  'Never Never Land (Fly Away)'.  (more...)
