American Composers Orchestra Announces 40th Season - Tickets Now Available

Tickets are now on sale for American Composers Orchestra's (ACO) 40th Anniversary Season, under the leadership of Artistic Director Derek Bermel and Music Director George Manahan. This season includes eight world premieres by a diverse set of composers performed by ACO at Carnegie Hall and Symphony Space, and continues the orchestra's commitment to serve as a catalyst for the creation of new orchestral music, providing unprecedented opportunities for American composers to create new work and for audiences to discover it. Founded in 1977, ACO remains the only orchestra in the world dedicated exclusively to the creation, performance, preservation, and promulgation of music by American composers. To date, ACO has performed music by 800 American composers, including 350 world premieres and newly commissioned works. ACO takes its commitment to fostering new work beyond the stage in its annual Underwood New Music Readings for emerging composers, now in its 26th year in New York, and through its program EarShot, the National Orchestra Composition Discovery Network, which brings the Readings experience to orchestras across the country in partnership with American Composers Forum, the League of American Orchestras, and New Music USA. ICELAND Holds Concert

Overtone Industries, a celebrated force in the evolution of contemporary music theatre and experimental opera, will share the next phase of its epic new multidisciplinary production, ICELAND, in concert form, at the Ford Theatres' stunning, newly renovated amphitheatre in Los Angeles on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 8:30pm. Written and composed by O-Lan Jones, in collaboration with critically acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter Emmett Tinley, ICELAND is a modern love story, set in a mythical and timeless world, where ancient creatures challenge the hero and heroine on an archetypal journey. The work tells an intimate story, beginning in an Icelandic airport and journeying off the map of the known world, into the realm of "The Hiddenfolk" and the vast mythic inner landscapes of Iceland. The ICELAND Concert at the Ford, presented for the first time with full orchestration and complete score, will be directed and choreographed by local legend Ken Roht, with musical direction by David O, as well as additional creative scenic design elements and impressionistic costumes. The mysterious conglomerate Monocorp fabricates an epidemic condemning intimacy to profit from its "safe" new pseudo-sex product called the Love Light. At an underground 'intimacy' speakeasy called "The Siamese Sex Show," four fallen popstars gather in collusion to plan their revenge against Monocorp's devious CEO. Two of Boston's leading musical ensembles—the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) and Odyssey Opera—present Lowell Liebermann's opera The Picture of Dorian Gray (1995) in a semi-staged production. Conductor Gil Rose leads the acclaimed musicians of BMOP and Odyssey Opera's cast of stellar vocal soloists in Liebermann's version of Oscar Wilde's classic novel of philosophical horror. Theatre Row Presents THE VANITY

The Vanity is a stylized, darkly humorous, period melodrama, which plays like a marriage of The Picture of Dorian Gray, Sunset Boulevard and Valley of the Dolls full of high drama and dirty secrets. It's 1947 and Julian Gray, a beautiful but sheltered young Plantation heir decides to start a new life in Hollywood. He finds himself the object of all sorts of hungry attention and the great director Hilton Wheeler casts him as the lead in a major motion picture. In spite of a promising future as a movie star, Julian falls in love with Stella, a makeup girl on the set of his first film. All hell breaks loose, when Julian inherits a mysterious Victorian vanity table from a distant, unknown relative and the vanity is possessed by a powerful demon. Julian is offered the chance to maintain his infamous good looks indefinitely, as long as he agrees to forsake love in favor of hedonistic pleasure. Mr. Gray is faced with an impossible choice, and is tempted in all directions by an array of technicolor characters. (more...)
