At one point during WASTE OF SPACE, Chris Dwan began singing the lyric 'We're connected in our own sort of universe' again and again. That line came from an original track, 'All I Know,' co-written with Ross Baum. Making his New York City solo concert debut at Feinstein's/54 Below on September 6, Dwan did create his own sort of the universe, but the connections remained a bit unclear. (more...)

Casting women in male roles is nothing new...cross-gender casting goes back to the earliest days of known drama. Even so, when Curtain Call's executive director and artistic head decided to produce David Mamet's testosterone-driven classic, Glengarry Glenn Ross with all females, he knew heads would turn and tongues would wag. This distaff version of the 1984 Pulitzer Prize winner will play in Curtain Call's Dressing Room Theatre in Stamford, from October 20 through November 6. (more...)

Artistic Director Emma Rice To Leave The Globe

The Globe has announced that Emma Rice will be stepping down as Artistic Director in April 2018, two years after her tenure began. In a statement, CEO Neil Constable said: 'Emma's mould-breaking work has brought our theatre new and diverse audiences, won huge creative and critical acclaim, and achieved exceptionally strong box office returns. In breaking the mould, this latest season has generated productive debate concerning the purpose and theatrical practice of the Globe, in relation to the use of sound and lighting technology within our theatre spaces. Following much deliberation and discussion, the Globe Board has concluded that from April 2018, the theatre programming should be structured around 'shared light' productions without designed sound and light rigging, which characterised a large body of The Globe's work prior to Emma's appointment.  (more...)

New York Public Library for the Performing Arts Will Celebrate New York & London Theatre in CURTAIN UP Exhibition

New York's Broadway and London's West End have long been the biggest destinations for live theater, and now, a new exhibition opening at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts honors the rich creative talent and award-winning productions in both cities. Co-curated by The Library for the Performing Arts and the V&A, where the exhibition debuted earlier this year, in partnership with the Society of London Theatre (SOLT), Curtain Up: Celebrating the Last 40 Years of Theatre in New York and London highlights how the theatre districts of both cities have flourished and developed since 1976. The exhibition, which opens at The Library for the Performing Arts in Lincoln Center onOctober 31, 2016  and is on display through June 30, 2017. (more...)

Following rumors that the upcoming Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, would have multiple sequels, screenplay writer of the franchise, and original Harry Potter author, J.K Rowling has confirmed via Twitter that the series will have five parts.
