Based on the Newbery Medal-winning book by Paul Fleischman, Seedfolks is about an immigrant neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohio that is transformed by a community garden. Actor Sonja Parks embodies the eleven distinct voices of Gibb Street in this enthralling, one-woman production, directed by Peter C. Brosius. In October, the UW World Series will present the world premiere of Antigona, a new work by Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca. Hailed by critics everywhere for its transcendent and deeply emotional performances, Noche Flamenca is one of the most authentic flamenco companies in the world today, and Soledad Barrio is its star. Now, in a unique creative partnership, this remarkable company joins with acclaimed American theater director Lee Breuer to create a new work, Antigona, based on Sophocles' ancient Greek heroine. Combining live music, song, and dance, Noche Flamenca's Antigona will bring the fiery, expressive nature of flamenco to one of the world's great tragedies in an evening-length work that promises to be both gripping and intensely moving. San Antonio College Presents ANTIGONE as Part of Summer Rep, 7/14-17

SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE is proud to announce its next production: a visceral and physical adaptation of Sophocles' legendary tragedy Antigone. Unlike many presentations of this ancient text, however, director Joseph Urick has chosen to present the style in its simplest and purest form: using the art of mask and voice. "There is no set, no projections, no gimmicks, or special effects," states Urick, "only the actors and their voices, performing a piece that serves more as a ritual for one of the pantheon of gods and goddesses of ancient Greece." When asked what a modern audience could expect from the piece, Urick said, "expect to experience something much different than what we accept as a conventional theatrical experience." (more...)

Siti Company Announces Michelle Preston as Executive Director

SITI Company's Board of Directors along with Co-Artistic Directors Anne Bogart, Ellen Lauren and Leon Ingulsrud have named Michelle Preston as its new Executive Director. Preston joined SITI in July of 2012 as Deputy Director, where she oversaw fundraising, external communications, strategic plan implementation, and board development and has served as Interim Executive Director since January of 2014. Playwright Chip Deffaa says he never dreamed, when his musical play "One Night with Fanny Brice," first opened Off-Broadway at St. Luke's Theater in the 2011-2012 season, that the starring role would someday be played by a teenager. Over the past three years, stars in their 30s, 40s, and 60s have played the show, which transferred in 2013 to the 13th Street Repertory Theater.
