Artistic Director Carey Perloff announced today four of the seven productions that will comprise the lineup of the company's 50th subscription season, which will open in September 2016 with the 2015 Olivier Award-winning Best New Play, King Charles III, a coproduction with Seattle Repertory Theatre and Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, DC; the world-premiere theatrical adaptation of Khaled Hosseini's (The Kite Runner) best-selling novel A Thousand Splendid Suns, featuring a live score by acclaimed musician David Coulter; the acclaimed new play, John, by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Annie Baker; and Battlefield, Peter Brook and Marie-Helene Estienne's intimate new interpretation and staging of Brook's groundbreaking production of The Mahabharata. Lyric Opera of Chicago announced today casting for the remaining principal roles in its grand-scale production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I, featuring Broadway stars Kate Baldwin and Paolo Montalban as Anna Leonowens and the King of Siam. Additional Broadway artists Ali Ewoldt (Tuptim), Alan Ariano (The Kralahome) and Rona Figueroa (Lady Thiang) join the cast, along with Sam Simahk (Lun Tha) and Chicagoland artists Charlie Babbo (Louis Leonowens), Jomar Ferreras (Interpreter), John Lister (Captain Orton), David Parkes (Sir Edward Ramsay), Peter Sipla (Phra Alack) and Matthew Uzarraga (Prince Chulalongkorn). Two new exhibitions at the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers demonstrate how artists working nearly 150 years apart applied their understanding of the public's fallibility to create iconic images.¬†Honor√© Daumier and the Art of La Caricature¬†and¬†More than Fifteen Minutes of Fame: Warhol's Prints and Photographs, both¬†drawn from the museum's extensive print collection¬†and on view through¬†July 31,¬†demonstrate how these artists took advantage of the new technologies of their eras to disseminate their work to a broad public, influencing the views and tastes of their contemporaries. The producers of the multi award-winning smash hit Billy Elliot the Musical are delighted to announce that the four boys who will play the title role in the first ever UK and Ireland tour of the iconic musical are Adam Abbou (12 years old from Liverpool), Matthew Lyons (11 years old from Leeds), Haydn May (11 years old from Bath) and Lewis Smallman (12 years old from West Bromwich). The boys were cast following nationwide auditions and after months of intensive rehearsals will alternate in the role when the show opens at the Theatre Royal Plymouth on Wednesday 24 February 2016. Steppenwolf Theatre Company presents the Chicago premiere of Annie Baker's 2014 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, THE FLICK. Under the direction of Dexter Bullard, who also directed the Chicago premiere of Baker's Circle Mirror Transformation, the cast features Danny McCarthy,Caroline Neff and Travis Turner as the three hapless employees of THE FLICK movie house. The production is curently in previews for a February 14th opening and runs through May 8, 2016 in Steppenwolf's Upstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St).
