by BWW News Desk - Jun 9, 2016

New York's most dynamic new dance party, Supercinema, returns this month with The Emerald City Ball in honor of The Wizard of Oz on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at The McKittrick Hotel (530 W 27th Street, New York, NY), home of Sleep No More.  Supercinema, a one-of-a-kind nightlife experience told through a cinematic lens, invites guests to a music-and-live-performance-filled dance party inspired by the world of that month's film or film series, as with recent installments that immersed partygoers in worlds of Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet in February, James Bond 007 in March, Alice in Wonderland in April, and most recently The Great Gatsby in May.  Each Supercinema party requires guests arrive in costumes inspired by the film, which for The Wizard of Oz means dressing as Dorothy Gale, Tin Woodman, Scarecrow, Wicked Witch of the West, Cowardly Lion, Glinda (Good Witch), Flying Monkey, Aunt Em, Uncle Henry, The Wizard, Emerald City Citizen (All Green), Rainbow Attire, Lollipop Guild, or Lullaby League.  The evening features scenic installations, pop-up theatrical performances, costumes galore and an all-night open bar with your ticket.  Ticket packages are on-sale now.  For info and tickets, visit SupercinemaNYC.com. BWW Review: DREAM SUITE: SONGS IN BLUES & JAZZ Is An Exceptional Evening at Birdland
by Alix Cohen - Jun 30, 2016

Though somewhat familiar with and already an admirer of actor/vocalists Carpathia Jenkins and Alton Fitzgerald White, I was, until tonight, unaware of the apparently prolific musician, songwriter, librettist, and educator Louis Rosen. Rosen's Dream Suite, which occupied the second part of this June 28 show at Birdland, unearths the music of poems by American poet, social activist, novelist, and playwright Langston Hughes (1902 -1967). BWW Review: STAGES St. Louis' Terrific Production of DISNEY'S ALICE IN WONDERLAND
by Chris Gibson - Jun 23, 2016

Every year you can count on STAGES St. Louis to produce a wonderful season of musicals, and you can always be sure there will be something for the younger set in the schedule as well. And,they make sure that the same care and professionalism goes into the production of each and every show, no matter who it's aimed at. The Westport Playhouse has also proved to be a good venue for these Theatre for Young Audiences presentations, and with each subsequent show here they seem to really be getting more and more comfortable with the very intimate surroundings it provides. Such is the case with their offering this year, DISNEY'S Alice in Wonderland, a very colorful, engaging, and extremely entertaining musical that manages to pack a lot into around an hours time. It may just be the best show of this type they've ever produced, and I highly recommend it! (more...)
