Tom Gold To Create New Work For Gardner Museum

Tom Gold, founder and director of Tom Gold Dance, will create a new work entitled Blind Revelry for The Classical World in Modern Choreography, an evening of dance at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston in conjunction with an exhibition of the Farnese Sarcophagus (c. 225 CE), Thursday, May 17, at 7PM in the Museum's Calderwood Hall.

Robert Harling's STEEL MAGNOLIAS is a 1987 comedy drama about the bond amongst a group of Southern women in northwest Louisiana and is based on his experience with his sister's death. The title suggests that while women may be as delicate as magnolias they are also as tough as steel. The magnolia also specifically refers to a magnolia tree they are arguing about as the play begins.

Dawn Wells Returns to the Alhambra This Spring

When Dawn Wells last appeared at the Alhambra Theatre, ticket started at $7.50, the Alhambra Dinner Theater served a buffet and she was directed by George Ballis.  That was in 1974 and Ms. Wells played the lead in Neil Simon's Barefoot in the Park.  On May 24, 2017, Ms. Wells will once again star at the Alhambra, this time in the Tod Booth-directed show, Steel Magnolias in what is now the Alhambra Theatre & Dining, celebrating its 50th anniversary season and is the longest running professional dinner theater in America.

Prumsodun Ok (b. 1987) is an artist, teacher, writer, and cultural activist committed to the positive transformation of our world. His interdisciplinary performances contemplate “the avant-garde in antiquity,” mining the tradition of Khmer classical dance to explore the intersection of contemporary social issues with new possibilities for performance. His original works have been presented at REDCAT (Los Angeles), CounterPULSE (San Francisco), OUTSider Festival (Austin), Teatro Benito Juárez (Mexico), Khmer Arts Theater (Cambodia), bhive (Greece), and at an international conference co-hosted by the Society of Dance History Scholars and the Congress on Research in Dance. In addition, he has performed in salon-style contexts for friends and select guests in Los Angeles and San Francisco, Rio de Janeiro and Santiago de Chile.
