The Sphinx Organization, a Detroit-based organization dedicated to transforming lives through the power of diversity in the arts, celebrates its 20th anniversary with two exciting programs at Carnegie Hall. The first is an appearance by the Sphinx Virtuosi, a chamber orchestra comprised of alumni of the internationally renowned Sphinx Competition, on Friday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m. Titled Concerti per Venti, the program features string works from the Baroque era through present day. Presented in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage, this wide-spanning program includes the New York premiere of Guardian of the Horizon: Concerto Grosso for Violin, Cello, and Strings, by award-winning composer Jimmy L pez. This work was co-commissioned by the Sphinx Organization, with the support of Linda and Stuart Nelson, Carnegie Hall, and New World Symphony in honor of Sphinx's 20th Anniversary Celebration. The concert will also include works by Vivaldi, Beethoven, Nathan Milstein, and Michael Abels.

The New York premieres and world premiere production of Gordon Getty's "Scare Pair," a double-bill by the San Francisco-based composer, pairs his two one act-operas -- Usher House and The Canterville Ghost -- together for the first time on October 19 and 21 (7:30pm) at The Sylvia and Danny Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College (located at East 68th Street, between Lexington and Park Avenues).  Both works, with the libretto and music by Mr. Getty, will be sung in English and have a running time of 60 minutes each.
