The Wallis and Mark Cortale present AN EVENING WITH CHRISTINE EBERSOLE on Friday, February 28, 2020, 7:30 pm, in the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts' Bram Goldsmith Theater. The two-time Tony Award-winning star of 42nd Street and Grey Gardens returns to The Wallis to perform music from the American Songbook, Broadway and more. With music direction by Larry Yurman and special guest Scott Frankel, both of whom worked with Ebersole on Broadway's War Paint and Grey Gardens, the evening is directed by Scott Wittman (Hairspray, Patti LuPone on Broadway, Nathan Lane, Sarah Jessica Parker, Rufus Wainwright).

The story takes place one Christmas Eve in 1933 as the Spencer family, known on television as a?oeThe Waltons,a?? awaits the return of their father, who has had to find work many miles from home. With anxious anticipation, his eight children and their mother prepare for Christmas with the uncertainty of his return in the midst of a winter snow storm. The eldest son, who also narrates the tale, is sent out to find his father, encountering many of the town's characters, as well as some revelations about them, himself, and the man for whom he is searching. It is a perfect a?oeget you in the mood for the holidaysa?? experience that will be sure to please Playhouse audiences.

The Wallis and Brooklyn's National Sawdust Projects Present Forward Music Project 1.0 & 2.0

The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts and National Sawdust Projects, the producing arm of Brooklyn's acclaimed National Sawdust, present back-to-back evenings of two versions of Forward Music Project, a gripping multi-media program of stylistically contrasting commissions for solo cello and electronics by 12 of today's most forward-thinking female composers conceived and performed by cellist Amanda Gookin to encourage social change and women's empowerment. Forward Music Project 1.0, opens the two-night series on Thursday, May 30, 8:00 pm, and includes works by Angélica Negrón, Nathalie Joachim, Leila Adu, Jessica Meyer, Allison Loggins-Hull, Amanda Feery and Morgan Krauss. Forward Music Project 2.0: in this skin, set for Friday, May 31, 2019, 8:00 pm, features music by Paola Prestini, Niloufar Nourbakhsh, Shelley Washington, Alex Temple and Kamala Sankaram. Held at The Wallis' Lovelace Studio Theater, both programs feature a visceral experience of music, light and stories that explore a range of issues facing women today, from the LGBTQ+ to reproductive rights, sexual violence and empowerment. The works are performed through the lens of solo cello, electronics, and projection art by S Katy Tucker and audio interludes from the composers.

The Wallis Studio Ensemble presents S.O.S.,  an original multi-media physical theatre work about love and resilience in times of crisis, directed by Madeleine Dahm, from Thursday, January 31 through Sunday, February 10, 2019 at the Circle X Theatre (Please note: S.O.S.is not  being performed at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, but at the Circle X Theatre in Atwater Village). Target Margin Theater Presents THE MAKING OF KING KONG

Directed by Eugene Ma (The Baltimore Waltz, Oregon Shakespeare Festival; Moliere's The Imaginary Invalid, CSV Cultural Center), The Making of King Kong is a theatrical journey into the cultural monster behind the myth. The play takes a brutal look at America's history of white patriarchy, imperialism, and sexism through the eyes of original King Kong creators Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack, and Hollywood starlet Fay Wray.

Long Beach Opera's Three Tales At The Ernest Borgnine Theater

Three Tales by Steve Reich, with visuals by Beryl Korot, will open the Long Beach Opera's 40th Anniversary Season, for two performances Saturday, November 3 at 6pm and Sunday, November 4 at 2:30pm at the Ernest Borgnine Theater, Scottish Rite Event Center, in Long Beach, CA.  The production is sung in English, and is conducted by Andreas Mitisek. Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece Long Day's Journey Into Night  comes to the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts for a limited three-week engagement from Friday, June 8 through Sunday, July 1. Richard Eyre's acclaimed Bristol Old Vic production stars Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons(Brideshead Revisited, Reversal of Fortune,  'The Borgias') and Olivier Award winner and Oscar nominee Lesley Manville(Another Year,  'Harlots,' Phantom Thread). The Center For Ballet And The Arts At NYU Announces 2018-19 Fellows

The Center for Ballet and the Arts at New York University (CBA), the first international institute devoted to the creation and academic study of ballet, today announced the 27 artists and scholars who will serve as CBA Fellows in the 2018-19 academic year. MOAD MDC Presents 'Poetry And Jazz,' A Performance By Jack Hirschman

The Museum of Art and Design at Miami Dade College (MOAD MDC) in collaboration with the Miami Book Fair will present Poetry and Jazz, an evening of words and music with legendary American poet Jack Hirschman. Writer, editor, translator, musician, and political activist, Hirschman will perform with longtime collaborators, the Terni Jazz Orchestra Ensemble. Produced in collaboration with the Miami Book Fair, Poetry and Jazz will have one performance on Saturday, April 28 at 7 p.m. at the North Beach Bandshell in Miami Beach. Admission is free.
