"You must search for the others, the ones who were stolen from their graves." His granddaughter is not inclined to undertake such a journey she believes only a crazy old shaman could dream up. While she has her misgivings, Hollow-Woman finally agrees to drive Grandfather to Boston in what turns out to be a spiritual journey, quest of self-discovery, and an appreciation of family and culture. Since 2000, the Studio Theatre has hosted the Louise Heck-Rabi Dramatic Playwriting One Act Festival, encouraging young playwrights to submit their original works. Each year, 6-7 semi-finalists are chosen out of all submissions. The plays are then read at a Workshop, where they are critiqued by judges. Three finalists win a scholarship as well as the opportunity to produce their play in front of a live audience. Each winning playwright has a chance to work with a student director and student performers to realize their productions on the stage. (more...)

Last night, I was invited to attend the final dress rehearsal of Country Playhouse and the Houston Masonic Library's World Premiere production of LEAVING SAN JACINTO by Diana Howie. The one act drama invites audiences to imagine what the journey on the Yellow Stone Steam Boat may have been like on a certain day in May of 1836. Texas is a new nation, having just won its independence. Sam Houston, Lorenzo de Zavala, and Santa Anna, three of Texas history's most iconic masons are all on board the Yellow Stone. The boat leaves Harrisburg, Texas and heads south on the San Jacinto River towards Galveston, allowing these three men a great opportunity to come together and even converse. (more...)

Time Warner Cable SportsNet has announced that Galaxy legend Cobi Jones and veteran soccer commentator John Shrader will call LA Galaxy games on the network, with Kelli Tennant serving as the Galaxy sideline reporter.
