In the "Just So Stories," Rudyard Kipling created a magical world as he told his daughter fables of the animal kingdom. In "Just So," George Stiles and Anthony Drewe ("Honk!") have created a new musical that weaves five of Mr. Kipling's most famous tales together into a fanciful lesson about personal courage, individuality and friendship.

'Catching a Cup of Sunshine' is available for the first time in an HD edition for iBooks and available in the Apple iTunes store. The book was created and designed especially for iBooks by author Robert Stanek.
Robert Stanek's ground-breaking Bugville Critters books are captivating the imaginations of young readers around the world. Author Robert Stanek has received hundreds of letters from young readers asking about Buster. Robert Stanek quietly worked on the Bugville Critters for 15 years, satisfied with only the gleeful cheers, laughs and giggles of his children who delighted to hear his tales of Bugville and a little bug called Buster. As his children got older, they urged him to get the books published so other children could enjoy them as much as they did, and that's exactly what Robert Stanek set out to do in 2004.
As a young child, Robert Stanek's family was very poor. He was one of five children raised by a single mom. Books allowed Robert to escape the poverty and violence that filled his early life. 'Books taught me much about the world,' says author Robert Stanek. 'They gave me windows to exotic places, learning, and new worlds. I was one of those geeky kids who belonged to the book a day club. I lived as much in books as anywhere. The community library and the library at school were second homes to me.'
In 'Catching a Cup of Sunshine,' the precocious lovable Buster tries to understand the meaning of a day and ends up learning all about the days of the week and the months of the year. 'Robert takes readers through Buster's hilarious adventure and catching sunshine in a cup is just the beginning,' says Jeannie Kim, publisher at Reagent Press. 'Children reading the book whether alone or with their parents help will learn a lot about time. The approach is innovative and I've never seen another book like it.'
Robert Stanek has been dreaming up stories since he was a boy, but it was only since the early 1990's that his work began to get published. As a technology journalist, Robert (writing as William R. Stanek) has written for PC Magazine, Dr. Dobbs, TechNet Magazine and a variety of other leading magazines. As a technology writer, he's has written for Simon & Schuster, Random House, Macmillan, Pearson, Microsoft, O'Reilly and other publishers. Of that, he says, 'My many technical articles and technical books have helped millions of readers learn essential job skills and stay competitive. That's important, especially in these troubling economic times.
'My children's books are helping kids learn essential life skills. The Bugville books provide stories that address real issues and challenges children face as they start school, make friends, and learn about the world around them. Each book provides a positive lesson about life, friendship, family, our world, the natural world of which we are all a part, and our environment.'

It's a very lively crowd for a Sunday matinee but Theatre in the Round Players have quite a loyal following, so I'm not surprised. Just before the lights fade to black, I hear it and it was that moment I should've immediately knocked on wood.

Orange County, Calif.—Nov. 26, 2013—Spend Christmas with Pacific Symphony and LeAnn Rimes! Rimes' sweet southern charm and big, rich voice embrace the holiday spirit as she performs songs from her Christmas album, “What a Wonderful World,” plus fan favorites such as “How Do I Live” and “Can't Fight the Moonlight,” all backed by the lush sounds of the Symphony. Now 31 and having just released her 14th album, “Spitfire,” the former prodigy has become known for her easy banter between songs, warm smile and undeniable talent.
Let's start off this week's installment with a simple math lesson, shall we? Goodspeed Musicals, celebrating their 50th Anniversary, had a reunion celebration in New York City at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre at Lincoln Center. Knowing how many shows are put up between the main stage and Norma Terris season and how many actors/creative teams/technicians are used for each production, can anyone guess how many people took over LCT that exciting Monday night? Who said that?! Yes, you are right...over 500 people, representing 120 shows, spanning all 50 years, were in attendance to catch up and celebrate the greatness that Goodspeed Musicals has meant to the musical theatre world. If you grew up loving musicals, knew cast members from every Broadway show from 1990 on up and playing your cast recording CD's until they skipped, you would have been a pig in...well, you know what.

'Open' follows the meteoric rise of Compaq, from humble beginnings to worldwide PC industry leadership in just over a decade, all the while dodging life threatening attacks from IBM and a host of low price competitors. Just four years after the 'open industry standard' began, it was so dominant that the combined market share of Compaq, IBM and a few dozen compatibles was over 75%, and Apple was relegated to a niche. When the PC industry appeared to be capitulating to IBMs scheme to end the 'open standard,' only Compaq resisted, and continued to pursue a tactic to stop them. The solution they came up with surprised everyone, especially IBM, and led to an industry rebellion that weakened IBM to the point that Compaq was able to surpass them.

Woodie King Jr's New Federal Theatre kicks off its 44th season with 'The Ed Bullins Project' - two revivals from his 'Twentieth Century Cycle of Plays' - In The Wine Time and The Fabulous Miss Marie. Bullins, winner of the prestigious NY Drama Critics' Circle Award and OBIE Award for The Taking of Miss Janie, has greatly influenced American theatre, especially Black theatre. His work, characterized by disdain for ineffective political rhetoric as a substitute for action, most often examines the lives of Black people in the inner city. In 1968, Clive Barnes, writing in the New York Times called Bullins 'a welcome addition to the ranks of New York playwrights.' Four years later, Barnes added 'Bullins writes the way Charlie Parker played: It is all so easy and effortless. It sounds improvised, and yet it doesn't sound improvised, simply because it is the improvisation of formality.' Today, Bullins is regarded as a seminal force in the American theater.

Last week I began a quest to unite two quintessentially American institutions; sports and musical theatre. Though this might be nothing more than an impossible dream, this is my quest, to follow that goal, no matter how hopeless, no matter how far... I have to take this metaphor. In this week's edition of TRASLATING SPORTS, I will attempt to provide you with enough college football information so that you won't be left with nothing more than a vegetarian bratwurst and a confused look on your face at your neighbor's Labor Day cookout.

For four decades, the Dallas Cowboys were synonymous with winning and were the gold standard for how to operate a football franchise. Seemingly unhindered by the rest of the football universe, the names of Tom Landry, Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith were exalted to legendary status along the path to earning a record five Super Bowl championships. They won with flair, grace, and a unique quality of football brain-trust that constructed teams with stamina and staying power. From the unprecedented stretch of twenty consecutive winning seasons under Landry, to Jimmy Johnson's group that captured three Super Bowls in a four year span during the 1990's, to the immaculate blue star on the helmet, and the famous hole in the roof, the Cowboys were a franchise that, not only had it all, they did it all.
