The 2014 Ebola outbreak is remembered as one of the most widely feared epidemics in recent memory. The Latino Commission on AIDS celebrated its 23rd annual Cielo Gala on Friday, June 1, at Cipriani Wall Street. The 17th annual Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, today announced its lineup of 55 diverse and engaging short films in competition, including 29 world premieres. The selected shorts include a cross-section of international and U.S. filmmakers and were curated from a record 4,754 submissions. For the second year running, 40% of the selections are directed by female filmmakers. The short films will be presented in 10 distinct competition programs, which consist of five narrative, three documentary, one animation, and one hybrid program. The program will also include special screenings and the 12th annual Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival, sponsored by Mohegan Sun. The Shorts Film program, sponsored by Nutella®, runs throughout the Festival, April 18-29.

The 17th annual Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, revealed its feature film lineup championing the discovery of emerging voices and celebrating new work from established filmmaking talent. To close the Festival, Tribeca will World Premiere The Fourth Estate, from Oscar®-nominated director Liz Garbus, which follows The New York Times' coverage of the Trump administration's first year. The Centerpiece Gala will be the World Premiere of Drake Doremus' sci-fi romance Zoe starring Ewan McGregor, Lea Seydoux, Rashida Jones, and Theo James. The 2018 Tribeca Film Festival takes place April 18-29.

PBS will broadcast documentary film THE CHINESE EXCLUSION ACT on Tuesday, May 29th at 8:00 p.m. ET. This deeply American story – about immigration and national identity, civil rights and human justice; about how we define who can be an American, and what being an American means, is directed by Emmy-winning Directors Ric Burns and Li-Shin Yu. 

Premium pay television network EPIX®, an MGM company, today announced that production is underway on its critically-acclaimed original series Get Shorty, with Emmy® and Golden Globe®-winning and Academy Award®-nominated actress Felicity Huffman (Transamerica, Desperate Housewives) joining the cast as a recurring guest star. Huffman will play Clara Dillard, a mothering, high-level special agent for the FBI, described as hippie therapist meets J. Edgar Hoover.

According to Variety, Katie Couric has made her first public statement to People Magazine regarding Matt Lauer's departure from NBC's Today Show. Couric told People that the ordeal has been 'painful' for her. 'The accounts I've read and heard have been disturbing, distressing and disorienting and it's completely unacceptable that any woman at the Today show experienced this kind of treatment.'
