When Anthony Giardina's The City of Conversation opened at New York's Lincoln Center Theater in 2014, the depiction of a Georgetown political salon seemed so perfectly reflective of Washington, Arena Stage's Molly Smith rushed to get it staged here, and even succeeded in obtaining the same director, Doug Hughes. BWW Review: Circuit's THE OTHER PLACE Is 'Down the Rabbit Hole'BWW Review: Circuit's THE OTHER PLACE Is 'Down the Rabbit Hole'
by Joseph Baker - Feb 8, 2016

Throughout Sunday's matinee of Sharr White's intensely watchable THE OTHER PLACE at Circuit, for some reason I kept thinking of Edgar Allan Poe's 'A Dream Within a Dream' and, particularly, of these lines: 'All that we see or seem / Is but a dream within a dream. / I stand amid the roar / Of a surf-tormented shore, / And I hold within my hand / Grains of the golden sand -- / How few! yet how they creep / Through my fingers to the deep, / While I weep -- while I weep.' THE OTHER PLACE, ably directed by the always dependable Dave Landis, is somewhat constructed like a Chinese puzzle box. Like the main character, a drug company scientist named 'Juliana Smithton' (who, in turn, is married to 'Ian,' an oncologist), the audience is continually challenged with questions of what is real and what is not. BWW Reviews: TICK, TICK...BOOM! at ONSTAGE In BedfordBWW Reviews: TICK, TICK...BOOM! at ONSTAGE In Bedford
by Kyle Christopher West - Feb 6, 2016

Like many artists before him, composer Jonathan Larson's genius wasn't fully acknowledged until after he had passed away. As any "Renthead" could tell you, Larson tragically died on the morning of the first off-Broadway preview performance of RENT, which would go on to become the mega rock hit of the 1990s. Although RENT would ultimately be the only complete work Larson left the world, he'd spent many years drafting and performing many unrealized pieces. After his death in 1996, playwright David Auburn (PROOF) got his hands on a "rock monologue" Larson had created (then called 30/90). Auburn reworked the piece into TICK, TICK…BOOM!, a three-person piece biographically documenting Larson's (portrayed through the character, Jon) struggle to create art in The Big Apple as he approached his thirties. The King's College is proud to present the New York premiere of Charles Strouse and Lee Adams' virtually unknown first musical, A Pound in Your Pocket.  Strouse and Adams had just met as two young, aspiring artists when they collaborated on Pound in 1958.
