by Stage Tube - Apr 13, 2015

Today in 2000, The Wild Party opened at the Virginia Theatre (now the August Wilson Theatre), where it ran for 68 performances. The Wild Party is a musical with a book by Michael John LaChiusa and George C. Wolfe and music and lyrics by LaChiusa. It is based on the 1928 Joseph Moncure March narrative poem of the same name. The Broadway production coincidentally opened during the same theatrical season (1999-2000) as an off-Broadway musical with the same title and source material. Its plot centers on a party - fueled by bathtub gin, cocaine, and uninhibited sexual behavior - hosted by Queenie and Burrs, whose relationship is disintegrating. The cast included Toni Collette (making her Broadway debut) as Queenie, Mandy Patinkin as Burrs, and Yancey Arias as Black. (more...)

BWW Blog: The Pelvic Floor: The Truth is Out There - By Guest Ninja Ann Wendel, PT, ATC, CMTPTBWW Blog: The Pelvic Floor: The Truth is Out There - By Guest Ninja Ann Wendel, PT, ATC, CMTPT
by Mark Fisher Fitness - Apr 12, 2015

The pelvic floor is having a moment in the health and fitness world. While I couldn't be happier that issues south of the belly button are finally getting some attention, I have to point out that not all information on the Interwebz is accurate. Just this week I was alerted to this article on the website for the National Association for Continence. I had high hopes as I saw the title, 'Integrate Kegels into Your Daily Workout Warmup.' While pelvic health physical therapists don't typically use the word Kegels any more, it's a word that the general public recognizes, and I was excited that someone was talking about how to incorporate the pelvic floor into activity. The article started out just fine, stating, 'Whether you're jogging, running, hiking, biking, or playing a contact sport, warming up is crucial to your exercise plan, so why not incorporate Kegel training into your daily routine to help strengthen your pelvic floor muscles?'A few weeks ago, Mark sent me an email to ask if I would speak to you on a topic about which I'm very passionate: pelvic floor dysfunction. If you've been following me in social media or online, you know that I am a physical therapist whose mission is to empower you to live an amazing life. I have a special interest in how the deep central stability system of the body provides the foundation for movement and continence. I touched on this issue here, in a guest post back in 2013. Today, we're going to delve deeper into the topic, because wearing a big old pad to workout is not sexy. (more...)

Written just over forty years ago, Jane Chambers' A Late Snow shouldn't be controversial anymore. Yet here it is, 2015, and the church I drive past on the way to the store has a sign out front declaring, 'DON'T GIVE IN TO THE HOMOSEXUAL AGENDA,' so it's safe to say that SET's latest production will raise eyebrows in some circles of Colorado Springs. Opening night of Dance Theater of Harlem's 2015 season at City Center began with a curtain speech by Artistic Director Virginia Johnson, who was visibly more excited and confident on this third anniversary of the rebirth of the legendary company than she had been in 2014 when DTH danced at Jazz at Lincoln Center after a nine-year performing hiatus. Her contagious enthusiasm proved to be well founded as the evening progressed with a quadruple bill called 'What's New' that showcased the vastly improved technique and artistry of the 18-member troupe.
