Bambi Frazier Announces Book Signing and Free CupcakesBambi Frazier Announces Book Signing and Free Cupcakes
by BWW News Desk - May 15, 2015

Bambi Frazier, author of the hit cookbook 'Better Bites' will be doing a book signing this weekend at Upshur Street Books in Washington, DC. Frazier's cookbook is the first in the 'Better Bites' series and will be followed by two more cookbooks to complete the set. 'This first book is a testament to what I learned in the early years of my cooking and baking career and then how I put my own little spin on it,' she explains. 'I'm all about ease. I don't want to come home on a weeknight with a house full of hungry kids and spend all night in the kitchen. There's a way to get it done, get it done well and still have time to chill out at the end of the evening. That's what this book is all about.' She says the second book, which is currently in the works, puts a bit of a healthier spin on the meals, which correlates with how she cooks and bakes today. 'I'm all about balance. I really to try to make an effort to eat well. I don't do it all the time, but most of the time, I try to keep myself in check.' She continues, 'That's what book #2 is all about... keeping it clean, for the most part. I'm not saying you won't find some delicious desserts in there, but, you know, it'll be healthier, sort of,' Frazier followed with a subtle laugh. Both cookbooks have short stories accompanying each recipe, some she describes as funny, some as heartwarming. Frazier first started baking as a young child with her mother and grandmother. She baked throughout her childhood, college and even for co-workers as she embarked on a career as a television news anchor in her home state of West Virginia and then in Savannah, Georgia. Before that though, she landed an internship at the nationally televised show, 'America's Most Wanted.' She eventually left her television career to be a stay at home mom and during that time, opened the wholesale cupcake company Savannah Cupcake in Washington, DC. The book signing is slated for this Saturday at 3pm. Upshur Street Books is located at 827 Upshur Street in NW DC. Frazier will also be giving away free cupcakes at the book signing, specifically, her best sellers red velvet, triple chocolate and more. For more information, go to www.upshurstreetbooks.com or call 202-726-0380. For more information on Bambi Frazier and Savannah Cupcake, go to www.savannahcupcake.com or call 202-780-9555. (more...)

BWW Reviews: With 'Dream Logic,' Aura Curiatlas Offers Mature, Amusing Dance TheatreBWW Reviews: With 'Dream Logic,' Aura Curiatlas Offers Mature, Amusing Dance Theatre
by Andrew White - May 13, 2015

Aura Curiatlas, and its current program 'Dream Logic' is dedicated to the idea that with a simple stage, simpler costumes and a sound cue or two, you can create magic.  Their evening of 10 dance vignettes is fascinating exploration of dance, physics, romance, with a healthy dose of cheap slapstick.  The daring physicality and creativity of the company is a reminder for those techno-geeks out there that the stage, still, truly belongs to the performing artist.
