Dramatists Guild of America Comments on 'VIRGINIA WOOLF?' Casting Controversy in Oregon

Controversy erupted last week over the casting of a black actor in a Portland, Oregon, production of Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Shoebox Theatre director Michael Streeter was asked by the Albee estate to re-cast the role with a white actor. He refused, and the estate pulled the rights. The Dramatists Guild is aware of the recent casting controversy and has just released the following statement. (more...)

YOUNG ARTISTS OF AMERICA: THE SONGS OF TIM RICE to Air on MPT This June

The broadcast premiere of Young Artists of America: The Songs of Tim Rice, airs on Maryland Public Television (MPT) Thursday, June 1 at 8 p.m. Filmed recently at MPT's Owings Mills studios, the program features symphonic, dance, and vocal performances of lyricist Sir Tim Rice's musical theater and movie hits by the Bethesda-based group, (YAA). YAA consists of students from more than 80 schools in Maryland, northern Virginia and the District of Columbia. The one-hour television special includes the talents of some 150 area students, and is hosted by Sir Tim Rice. (more...)

L.A. Percussion Quartet Reaches BEYOND in NY Debut, 6/1

Kennedy Center Announces DISTRICT OF COMEDY FESTIVAL

Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts presents its second annual District of Comedy Festival, bringing together acclaimed stars and rising acts for an all-laughs takeover of the nation's center for the performing arts. Headlined by a one-night-only NSO Pops concert with Jane Krakowski and Tituss Burgess, the festival, with Presenting Sponsor Capital One, features stand-up shows, music, theater, and performances for children and families in spaces across the Center. The District of Comedy Festival also coincides with a brand new edition of the Kennedy Center's popular collaboration with Chicago's The Second City, which will run for eight weeks in the Theater Lab.
