Mint Theater (Jonathan Bank, Producing Artistic Director) today announced the cast for a rare reading of Ferenc Molnar's Liliom which will be presented for one night only, onMonday, June 11 at 7pm at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street).  Liliom was turned into the musical Carousel by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II which is now enjoying a successful revival on Broadway.

Director Simon Levy, who has won much acclaim for his current production of Chaim Potok's The Chosen at the Fountain Theatre, now brings his directorial insight on achieving assimilation into America to the Sierra Madre Playhouse's production of THE IMMIGRANT, written by Mark Harelik about his grandfather's struggle to survive as the only Jewish immigrant to settle in Hamilton, Texas in 1909. The play is a timely and touching meditation on parents and children, newcomers and natives, Christians and Jews, and on what it means to be an American.

The beauty of Malibu will be explored in On Location in Malibu 2018: Paintings by the California Art Club at Pepperdine University's Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art beginning Saturday, May 19 until Sunday, July 29. A special reception to meet the artists will be held Saturday, May 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. There is no admission charge and the public is invited to attend.

The Vancouver Art Gallery announces a new exhibition uniting the works of two women artists practicing in British Columbia in the early twentieth century in Emily Carr in Dialogue with Mattie Gunterman, on view at the Gallery from April 28 to September 3, 2018. Home to the world's finest collection of Emily Carr works, the Gallery pairs a selection of paintings by Emily Carr (1871-1945) from its permanent collection with forty-eight photographs by US-born photographer Mattie Gunterman (1872-1945). Gunterman's photos are on loan from the private collection of Vancouver photographer and writer Henri Robideau.

On this day in 2013, a star-studded Broadway cast and the New York Philharmonic presented a staged concert of Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic, Carousel.

Sarasota Opera will celebrate its 60th anniversary season in 2018/2019 as it announced today at a press conference held on the main stage of the Sarasota Opera House in Sarasota, FL. The event was overseen by Maestro Victor DeRenzi, artistic director and principal conductor, and Richard Russell, Executive Director. Performances were offered by soprano Kara Shay Thomson who sang "In questa reggia" from Puccini's Turandot and bass Young Bok Kim who sang "La calunnia" from Rossini's The Barber of Seville. In addition, the audience participated in a community sing of the famous chorus "Va, pensiero" from Verdi's Nabucco.

The magical world of artist Marc Chagall and his wife Bella will be tenderly brought to life onstage at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts (The Wallis) next month in director Emma Rice's production of Daniel Jamieson's The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk.  Partners in life and on canvas, Marc and Bella are immortalized as the picture of romance. On the painter's canvas they flew, but in real life they walked through some of the most challenging times in 20th Century history-navigating the devastation of war, the Russian Revolution and each other. Following the artistic heights of Brief Encounter and 946: The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips, Kneehigh and Rice return to The Wallis with a production that combines the visuals of Chagall's paintings with the music and dance of the Russian-Jewish tradition. Performances begin February 23 and run through Sunday, March 11, 2018 with opening night set for Saturday, February 24 at 7:30pm. The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk is made possible in part by the generous support of Camille and Arnon Adar. Any truly great piece of theater (or film or art or music or a book) is both timely and timeless, reaching out across many generations and diverse populations to deliver a universal human message that anyone can understand and relate to.
