Team San Jose announced today that they have selected the Nederlander Organization to be the exclusive presenter of touring Broadway musicals and special events at the Center for the Performing Arts. The Inaugural 2009-2010 Season, under the local banner of Broadway San Jose ~ A Nederlander Presentation begins September 15, 2009.

Fox Associates announces its stellar 2009-2010 U.S. Bank Broadway Series, featuring Broadway's latest sensation IN THE HEIGHTS, winner of the 2008 Tony Award for Best Musical. The new Mel Brooks Musical YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, a zany recreation of the classic film, will make its St. Louis debut. The masterful work of Gilbert and Sullivan returns to the Huntington Theatre Company stage for the conclusion of its 2008-2009 Season. Pirates! (or, Gilbert and Sullivan Plunder'd) transports the action of The Pirates of Penzance, the classic operetta about a Pirate King and his motley band; a dutiful pirate apprentice and his nurse; a modern Major-General and his virgin wards; and a Sergeant of Police and his skittish force to the Caribbean in a raucous and rowdy update complete with swordfights, sex appeal, and Sullivan's original music. Gordon Greenberg (Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris), Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde, the Musical), and John McDaniel ('The Rosie O'Donnell Show') co-conceived the adaptation.

Tonight the theater community will kick off The Fantasticks 50th anniversary year with an early curtain of the show (7PM) and a post-performance cocktail reception at The Snapple Center with performances by Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent, Anna in the Tropics, Jack Goes Boating), Rita Gardner (original 1960 production of The Fantasticks, The Cradle Will Rock, The Wedding Singer), Orfeh (Legally Blonde, Footloose), Aaron Lazar (The Light in the Piazza, A Tale of Two Cities, Les Miserables), GrooveLily (Striking 12) and Jill Paice (Curtains, The Woman in White). The producers of the smash hit Broadway production of WEST SIDE STORY announced today that the show has shattered the Palace Theatre box office record for highest weekly gross for two consecutive weeks. The record was held previously by LEGALLY BLONDE for the week ending 12/30/07 (Christmas week) with $1,219,488. For the week ending 4/5/09, WEST SIDE STORY broke that record with $1,234,652 and then last week, for the week ending 4/12/09, shattered its own record with an impressive weekly gross of $1,308,787.

Broadway In Chicago is tickled pink to present LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL. Having won over audiences across the nation, our favorite blonde law student will make her Chicago debut for a four week limited engagement May 12 to June 7, 2009 at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts, Oriental Theatre (24 W. Randolph St.).
