Broadway actor Danny Burstein will make his Metropolitan Opera debut in the non-singing role of Frosch in this season's performances of Die Fledermaus. The new production of Johann Strauss II's operetta, conducted by Adam Fischer and directed by Jeremy Sams in his Met directorial debut, features new English-language lyrics by Sams and dialogue by acclaimed Broadway playwright Douglas Carter Beane. ABC Family Cancels BUNHEADS, Starring Sutton Foster

The Hollywood Reporter writes that ABC Family has cancelled BUNHEADS, starring Broadway favorite and two-time Tony Award-winner Sutton Foster. The show ended its first season in February. Despite earlier reports that BUNHEADS' second season would have been entitled to a 25% tax credit for filming in the state of California, plus a wide fan-base, the show has not been renewed. Dave Stahl to Play Ephrata Performing Arts Center, 8/15

Today, this veteran of major jazz festivals from Montreux, Switzerland, to the Newport Jazz Festival in New York City, is also carving out his own niche as founder and leader of The Dave Stahl Big Band. The master musician's signature assembly of seasoned musicians will be performing at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Sharadin Bigler Theatre, home of the Ephrata Performing Arts Center. COCA Theatre Company (CTC) presents its summer musical In the Heights, with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and book by Quiara Alegria Hudes, July 19-20. This production marks the Missouri amateur premiere of the show. In the Heights explores three days in the characters' lives in the New York City Dominican-American neighborhood of Washington Heights. The Broadway production was nominated for 13 Tony Awards in 2008 and won the Tonys for Best Musical, Original Score, Choreography and Orchestrations. It was also a finalist for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. (more...)
