Dee Buchanan Studio of Dance, Way Off Broadway to Host Benefit Concert for Local Student, 7/2

The Dee Buchanan Studio of Dance and The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre and Children's Theatre are teaming up to present a free benefit concert, A Magical Musical Adventure, on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at 7 pm, on the Knight Stage at Middletown High School. Twenty-eight local dancers ranging in age from 4 to 18 will perform together to raise money for TJ Rufty. The concert features many well-loved fairy tale characters and includes a variety of song-and-dance styles. There is no charge for admission. Free-will donations will be accepted at the door. During intermission a basket raffle will be held, which includes donations from many Middletown merchants in an effort to further help TJ. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Bucks County Playhouse's 46th Annual Student Theatre Festival

This year, 2013, marks the first time that the Student Theatre Festival has been at the Bucks County Playhouse in two years. The Playhouse reopened last summer, the summer of 2012. The festival was held for three consecutive weeks in May, and involved 800 students from twenty-five schools. Students from Pennsylvania and New Jersey preformed a thirty-minute segment from either a play or musical. The students then received critiques on their performance from a panel of adjudicators. The adjudicators was comprised of a select group of people with experience in theatre, some were from the local community and others were well-known screenwriters, actors or musicians. The Newtown Arts Company and the Bucks County Playhouse presented this year's Student Theatre Festival. (more...)

Buck Creek Players to Stage CITY OF ANGELS, 6/7-23

The Buck Creek Players will continue their 2012-2013 season 'In the Spotlight' with the Tony Award winning musical, City of Angels, a deliciously funny spoof of 1940's film noir and hard-boiled detective fiction. The wickedly witty musical -- written by Larry Gelbart, creator of TV's M*A*S*H -- opened on Broadway in 1989. With four-part harmonies by Cy Coleman (Sweet Charity, Barnum, The Will Rogers Follies) and lyrics by David Zippel (The Goodbye GIrl, Disney's Hercules, Disney's Mulan), City of Angels went on to win numerous honors in 1990, including the Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and The New York Drama Critics Circle awards for best musical. Opening Friday, June 7th, and running for three weekends through Today, June 23rd, curtain times will be at 8:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, with 2:30 p.m. matinees offered todays. All performances will be held at the Buck Creek Playhouse on the southeast-side of Indianapolis at 11150 Southeastern Avenue. Tickets are $17 for adults and $15 for students (through college), and senior citizens (ages 62 and older). After yesterday's news that Canadian pop group Barenaked Ladies will no longer be writing songs for the musical adaptation of ANIMAL HOUSE, The Calgary Herald reports that the band's lead singer Ed Robertson said he and the group are 'disappointed that things didn't work out' with the show and that they 'ultimately couldn't give any more time to the project' due to a new record and tour.
