Bay Street Theater Raised $15,000 from A NIGHT OF THANKS Benefit Concert

Bay Street Theater and Sag Harbor Center for the Arts presented a benefit concert to raise funds for Sag Harbor's Volunteer Ambulance and Fire Departments, entitled A NIGHT OF THANKS, that took place at Bay Street Theater on Thursday, January 19 at 7 pm. The evening raised $15,000 which will be split evenly between these two organizations. Funds for the Ambulance Department will be put towards a new ambulance or ancillary equipment, while funds for the Fire Department have been earmarked for turnout gear. (more...)

The Lake Effect Fringe Festival Kicks Off 5th Season

The Lake Effect Fringe Festival kicks off its 5th season of bringing new theatre to West Michigan all through the month of February on Wednesday, February 1 and 2, 2017 at 8:00 pm with a performance by Shadblow Theatre, reprising their production of Anatomy of Gray, by Jim Leonard. A coming of age story that is relatable to all. Its themes of community, family, questioning faith, fear of the unknown, acceptance, and love speak to audiences of all ages and backgrounds. The play's ensemble driven story-telling, sometimes delightful and sometimes devastating emotional depth, as well as its often presentational style allows this play to truly connect to its audiences. The story follows fifteen-year-old June Muldoon, her mother, the colorful townsfolk of Gray, Indiana, and the mysterious doctor who crash lands in the center of the "most boring town in the world." Seeking to raise questions about what it means to be a part of this incredibly diverse world, the heart of this play touches on themes relevant to all. Fast-paced clever staging, beautiful lyrical narration, and a small but talented nine person ensemble, this play offers a compelling story in an immersive setting that is sure to offer a lot of laughs and a few tears.  (more...)

Last night (Jan. 19, 2017), The Strip's newest high-powered headliners, TENORS OF ROCK celebrated the opening night performance of their first-ever resident production in the Showroom at Harrah's Las Vegas. The five burly Brits, backed by a shredding band and a bevy of beautiful dancers from famed Sunset Strip burlesque troupe, Little Miss Nasty, were met with countless standing ovations from the packed theater throughout the evening, as they delivered reimagined renditions of the most beloved rock anthems and biggest songs of all time. With special permission from Stephen King, Playhouse Merced will be producing "Stephen King's The Shining."  This live stage adaptation of King's classic novel follows the story of Jack Torrance and his family as they move into the Overlook Hotel after Jack is hired as winter caretaker.  Cut off from civilization, Jack battles alcoholism and bouts of uncontrolled rage, all while trying to write a play.  Meanwhile, evil forces linked to the Overlook's violent history take advantage of Jack's weaknesses in order to claim of his son, Danny, and his precognitive powers.
