'I think the composing thing really started to become the thing where I caught that bug, and I look at myself here twenty years later into it, and I am still kind of I'm amazed sometimes that I can sit down and still be as excited about what I do now as I was twenty years ago when I was just getting into it.”

I have a confession to make. Though I have seen hundreds of plays and musicals since MAMMA MIA! premiered on Broadway in 2000, until I saw Riverside Theatre's giddily silly, yet oddly emotional production-running now through April 29- I had never seen this polarizing jukebox musical; neither on stage, nor screen. However, it would have been impossible for anyone with even a passing interest in theatre or pop culture to not have heard countless opinions about the show, both good and bad, over the years. Is MAMMA MIA! hokey? Yes, it is. Does it have plot holes large enough that you could scuba through? In spades. Nearly two decades after it premiered in London, does it already feel even more dated than its disco-era music would lead you to believe? Absolutely. But, if you go in knowing and accepting MAMMA MIA! for what it is, then it is also an absolutely transportively entertaining night at the theatre.

Pittsburgh Public Theater's new Artistic Director, Marya Sea Kaminski, has assembled a collection of plays - some epic and timeless, others fresh and intimate - that invite us into the idea of home. These characters search for where they belong, who they love, and how they make a place for their families in poignant, hilarious, and sometimes harrowing circumstances. Marya welcomes you into their homes, and into ours: 'I am thrilled to invite Pittsburgh audiences into this season and to continue the Public Theater's legacy of telling a rich variety of stories with some of the most exciting artists working in the American Theater today. My favorite moment in the theater is when the artists and audience finally come together to bring a story to life. That feels like home to me.
