Marvelous! Outrageous! How else can you describe TMP's 17th season of presenting live musical theater in Tacoma?  Our thrilling 2010-2011 season includes six incredible shows on the TMP Mainstage and three exciting productions just for families from the Tacoma Children's Musical Theater.

The 2010-11 Mainstage season opens with the outrageous musical Hairspray - the hilarious, high-energy, high-"volume" 1960's musical based on the John Waters film of the same name.  The music and dancing just doesn't get any hotter on South Sound stages than this show at TMP! Next we present the new holiday musical theater classic, White Christmas.  This new stage version of the classic movie is replete with all the familiar Irving Berlin songs and lots of tap dancing.  Opening Thanksgiving weekend, it's a great way to spend the holidays with your family!  Our third show on the season, The Drowsy Chaperone, is a newer show written in the classic 1920's Broadway style. Don't let the title of this show fool you - it's not drowsy at all!  The vintage stylings of this hysterical show-within-a-show will be sure to pull us all in and make anyone forget their worries for even just a little while.  Our fourth show is also based on a movie, which was then made into a stage musical and then remade into a movie musical.  Nine is the story of Guido Contini, a famous Italian film director who has turned forty and faces a double crises: he has to shoot a film for which he can't write the script, and his wife of twenty years, the film star Luisa del Forno, may be about to leave him if he can't pay more attention to the marriage. As it turns out, it is the same crisis that is blocking his creative impulses and entangling him in a web of romantic difficulties in early-1960s Venice.  The beautiful score of this show is full of soaring tunes and witty lyrics that you'll be sure to love.  Spring arrives with the enduring audience favorite and golden era classic, Hello Dolly!, which follows the whirlwind adventures of America's most beloved matchmaker as she strives to bring romance to all - including herself - in turn of the twentieth century New York.  Finally, for our Summer Blockbuster, we will present the Andrew Lloyd Webber mega-musical, CATS... one of the longest-running and most successful musicals of all time.

As an added bonus, patrons can enhance their theater-going experience by attending the six preview presentations throughout the year entitled Behind the Curtain! at TMP.   On the Sunday evening prior to each to the six Mainstage openings, TMP cast, crew, directors and designers provide a FREE educational and interactive preview packed with enlightening facts about the show, its history, this production, and song and dance highlights from the show.

Our fifth season of The Tacoma Children's Musical Theater promises to be bigger and better than ever before.  Presented by TMP's regular adult performers, these fully-staged musicals based on classic children's literature are a great reason to make a family date and enjoy a trip to the theater.   The TCMT season will open in October as the classic characters and popular stories of Arnold Lobel's 'Frog' and 'Toad' and their friends leap from the page to the stage in A Year With Frog and Toad.   In honor of the NEA's Read Across America movement in March, TCMT will celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss himself with Seussical, The Musical.  In June, we venture back into the classroom with 'Miss Nelson' and the students of Room 207 in Miss Nelson is Missing! from the creators of last season's hit, Junie B. Jones.  For teachers, all of these productions will offer additional mid-week student group matinee performances this season.  Reservations are already being taken for school groups for these very popular shows. See the website at www.tmp.org/groups.aspx and contact the Box Office to reserve your student groups early because these performances do sell out well in advance!

All of these performances will take place at Tacoma Musical Playhouse, 7116 6th Avenue in Tacoma. All seating for TMP Mainstage and TCMT productions is reserved, so advance purchase is strongly recommended.  Season Subscription Packages for the Mainstage are now on sale and range in price from only $84-$134 for all six shows.

Single show tickets for Mainstage and TCMT productions become available online or through the TMP Box Office on September 1, 2010. Single ticket prices for Mainstage productions range from $20-$27, and TCMT tickets range from $10-$15. Group rates are also available. For tickets or more information, please visit www.tmp.org or call the TMP Box Office at 253-565-6867.
