Ray of Light Theatre (www.roltheatre.com), San Francisco's inimitable non-profit musical theatre company, announces the opening of its 9th season with the rock music spectacular, The Who's Tommy. This Tony award-winning musical runs October 16-November 7, 2009, at The Victoria Theatre in San Francisco, home of the company's wildly successful and critically recognized productions of The Rocky Horror Show in 2008, as well as Bat Boy: The Musical in 2005.

The Who's Tommy is a roof-raising musical explosion based on The Who's acclaimed 1969 concept album, now celebrating it's 40th anniversary. After witnessing the accidental murder of his mother's lover by his father, Tommy is traumatized into crippling catatonia. As the boy grows, Tommy suffers abuse at the hands of his sadistic relatives and neighbors until he reaches adolescence and is discovered to have an uncanny knack for playing pinball. When his mother finally breaks through his catatonia, he becomes an international pinball superstar. This exhilarating story of hope, healing and the human spirit is filled with iconic hit songs like ‘Pinball Wizard', ‘See Me, Feel Me', ‘Acid Queen' and a bevy more. Unforgettable music, a gripping story and an amazing cast make Tommy an eye-opening, must-see musical theatre event. www.tommysf.com
