Curtain Call Performing Arts (CCPA), is proud to present renowned San Francisco based opera troupe, Opera On Tap in "Le Nozze di Figaro," the latest show to enter Curtain Call's vibrant California Conservatory Theatre (CCT) venue, with five performances Friday through Sunday, June 21-23. Fresh off of a renewed lease with the city, and primed for a fantastic summer of live entertainment, 'Figaro' kicks off a string of shows and concerts in the CCT venue that offer something for everyone. Talented musicians ranging from opera singers to rock/reggae bands, big band and funk groups have graced the CCPA stage through the popular concerts and improv nights in the intimate 67-seat venue, bringing a diversity of art, music, and theatre to new audiences. The latest show launches a partnership between the two arts organizations, with 'On Tap' assuming residency with Curtain Call moving forward, and shows already planned for next season.
Opera on Tap was born in Freddy's Bar in Brooklyn, New York, in 2007 and their mission is to transform opera from being an elitist and inaccessible art form, to one that can be enjoyed by all audiences at affordable and casual venues. These frequent performances in pubs, cafes, and local theaters feature rehearsed professional opera singers and instrumentalists, serenading crowds with operatic favorites and innovative premieres alike. The company now boasts thirteen chapters in twelve cities across the country, and San Francisco is a flagship port. Since their launch in 2011, Opera on Tap: San Francisco has managed to grow an entirely new audience of opera lovers, who otherwise may have never known this incredible genre of music, while providing accessible evenings of opera to long-time opera fans who want a backstage pass into the life of the opera singer.
This month, audiences can experience the magic of Mozart's beloved opera Le Nozze di Figaro performed in the intimate setting of the California Conservatory Theater. This reimagined production is the most ambitious project to date from Opera On Tap: San Francisco, a 2-year old company whose mission is to put opera back into popular culture by presenting accessible, inexpensive, and innovative performances. For this show, the troupe partners with the bay area's graphic novelists to literally put the comics into comic opera.
Curtain Call is thrilled to bring Opera to San Leandro as part of Opera On Tap: San Francisco's breakthrough Figaro Project:
"For the first time ever, opera will be performed in San Leandro. What Opera On Tap is accomplishing with the Figaro Project and their overall mission of making opera more accessible to audiences of all ages and demographics, is impressive and commendable. Their mission is a great compliment to our vision of making the arts accessible to everyone in our community. Audiences are in for a treat," said Andrea Gorham, CCPA Founding Artistic Director.
Mozart's sublime score in 'Figaro' weaves together the sorrow, anger, anxiety, and joy that each character experiences. It is no wonder some critics say this is the perfect opera. Le Nozze di Figaro runs at the California Conservatory Theatre (999 E. 14th Street, San Leandro, CA 94577) Friday through Sunday June 21 - 23. Tickets are $25 General Admission and $22 Student/Senior. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.curtaincallperformingarts.org or call the box office at 510-909-9516.
