A Celebration of Life has been scheduled for Vista resident and San Diego theatre icon Sandra Ellis-Troy for Monday, December 13 at 4:00 pm at the Moonlight Amphitheatre, 1200 Vale Terrace Drive, Vista. The memorial is open to the public. Sandra Ellis-Troy passed away in her sleep sometime in the early morning hours of Saturday, December 4. Sandra was visiting her large family of children and grandchildren for the holidays near San Francisco.

Nearly 20 years ago, Sandra chose to pursue a career in the Theatre World after having successfully worked in a variety of fields: retail marketing director, owner of an imported gifts store, president of an advertising and public relations firm, restaurant proprietor, children's textbook illustrator, co-founder and senior vice president of a golf company, radio talk show host, published poet, event coordinator, and community relations consultant. But it was the theatre where she worked and found her calling.

Sandra was an Associate Guest Artist at Lambs Players Theatre, a Resident Artist at Cygnet Theatre and North Coast Repertory Theatre, and an Ensemble Member at New Village Arts. She appeared most recently at New Village Arts in the role of Jack's Mother in Into the Woods, and in Moonlight Stage Productions' Oklahoma! as Aunt Eller. Other theatres she appeared with include the Old Globe Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, San Diego Repertory Theatre, the Theatre in Old Town, Starlight Musical Theatre, Diversionary Theatre, Ion Theatre, Intrepid Shakespeare Company, Moxie Theatre, and Mo'olelo Performing Arts Company among others. Outside of San Diego, she cherished working with Sierra Repertory Theatre in Sonora, CA and PCPA Theatrefest in Santa Maria, CA. On the business side of theatre, Sandra was employed by Moonlight Stage Productions as a member of its administrative staff, as well as coordinating the educational outreach programs of the Moonlight Cultural Foundation, Moonlight's non-profit fund-raising arm.

"The entire San Diego theatre community is devastated by this tremendous loss of Sandra Ellis Troy," stated Kathy Brombacher, Producing Artistic Director of Moonlight Stage Productions. "Sandra was a passionate, forward-thinking life force both onstage and off.  Her deep passions lay with family, friends, and performing professionally on the stages of almost all of San Diego's theatres.  She worked tirelessly (with her prodigiously expressive writing skills) to encourage the building of relationships and partnerships in the theatrical community.  She believed fiercely that we should connect with each other and support each other.  What all of us recall as most miraculous about Sandy was her giving spirit, which she engaged generously in life and onstage.  Sandy directed Moonlight Cultural Foundation's community outreach program for several years.  She loved mentoring young people, encouraging their passion for theatre and their delight in finding their own "magic fire" of the creative spirit. While Sandy's passing has created an enormous void in our hearts,  we are charged with carrying on her legacy of building a "village"  of theatre makers who continue to actively pursue excellence as we treasure the gift of sharing live theatre."

Representatives of the San Diego theatre community are being invited to speak and to remember Sandra at her Celebration of Life. The program for the service will be posted online as details become available and more information is available at www.moonlightstage.com

. Complimentary food and beverages will be served.
