On August 18-20, 2016 a new dance festival will launch in Salt Lake City. New Century Dance Project, the brain-child of Los Angeles-based choreographer and teacher Francisco Gella (RDT dancer 1996-1998), brings together professional dancers and companies from Utah and beyond to share their expertise and artistic excellence with young aspiring dancers training for their future.
"There is no question that dance in the contemporary era has reached an epic level of popularity," says Gella. "The challenge is to maintain a level of excellence in artistry and training that the art form deserves. By breaking down the barriers between diverse styles and genres of dance, New Century will bring together some of the very best young dancers to perform with and be mentored by professional dancers and companies. " The festival will bring together dancers and companies for a closing festival performance at the University of Utah's Hayes Christensen Theatre on Saturday evening August 20. Companies include Utah's own Repertory Dance Theatre, Ballet West II, SALT Contemporary Dance, BYU Contemporary Dance Ensemble, Creative Arts Academy, Center Stage Performing Arts, as well as some of the finest youth companies from across the United States including Bunker Dance Center's Nevada Youth Dance Company, The Dance Studio of Fresno, and Columbia City Jazz Company.Videos
