Flutist Emmanuel Pahud returns to Salt Lake City for a colorful evening performance with the Utah Symphony under the baton of Music Director Thierry Fischer featuring Francois Borne's 19th century arrangement of Bizet's Carmen Fantasy and Marc-André Dalbavie's Flute Concerto. The performance takes place on January 29 & 30 at 7:30 PM at Abravanel Hall. Tickets, priced from $18 to $64, are available for purchase through www.utahsymphony.org or by calling (801) 355-2787.

In addition to the works performed with Emmanuel Pahud, the Utah Symphony will perform Wagner's Overture to The flying Dutchman, Haydn's Symphony no.96 "Miracle", and Bartók's Suite from The Miraculous Mandarin.

A highlight of the evening, Carmen Fantasy, contains luscious melodies with a flair of dance rhythms and passionate colors. Borne is known as an expert in both instrumental technique and in the development of the flute as an instrument. His arrangement reflects those characteristics, as the performers will display a variety of spectacular arpeggios that require true skill and mastery of the craft. Throughout the performance, the audience will experience Borne's Carmen in brilliant variations, finally leading the audience into a triumphant close.

The Utah Symphony previously featured the talents of Emmanuel Pahud on its 2014-15 season which included a thrilling surprise encore of a flute duet with Emmanuel Pahud and Music Director Thierry Fischer, who began his career as a flutist. Mr. Pahud is widely known as one of today's most exciting and adventurous flutists. He holds a position as the Principal Flute in the Berliner Philharmoniker and also enjoys an extensive international career, regularly appearing as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras including the London Philharmonic, Zurich Tonhalle, Suisse Romand, and Bayerischer Rundfunk.
