Trinity Rep's Winter Classes Now Open for Registration

Trinity Rep's Education Department has announced that they are still accepting enrollment for most levels of their Young Actors & Adult Winter Session - and that it's not too early to make your plans for the 2013 Young Actors Summer Institute.

For students in grades 2-12 who are just beginning to discover the joy of performing arts, or are too busy to take our year-round classes, Trinity Rep offers seasonal sessions of after school and Saturday acting courses at the theater. The Winter Session runs for six weeks from January 8 to February 16. Focusing on the fundamentals of theater including character building, scene study, playwriting and improvisation and each class culminates in a performance open to friends and family.

Additionally, a new Musical Theater Dance course for grades 8-12 will he held on Thursdays from 4:00PM-5:30PM. Taught by Shura Baryshnikov, the course will cover both fundamental dance skills and an array of musical theatre performance styles.

Trinity Rep's Education Department will also begin accepting enrollment in their Young Actors Summer Institute on January 2, 2013. The program provides students the opportunity to spend the summer exploring a world of creativity and theater under the instruction of Rhode Island's most knowledgeable theater professionals. The Young Actors Summer Institute (YASI) offers classes for grades 5-12 from July 1 to August 3, with an optional extension week for high school students with the YASI Shakes program from August 5 to 10. For elementary school age students, YASI Jr. is a week-long program for grades 1-4 and runs from June 24 through 28.

The Young Actors Summer Institute meets Monday through Friday with half, full, or extended day enrollment options. Students will have the opportunity to pick and choose from a wide array of electives, including: Shakespeare, improv, yoga, playwriting, directing, mask making, theatrical design, voice, audition techniques, movement, stage combat, and more. The Summer Institute culminates with a two public performances on the Trinity Rep stage. The faculty of the Young Actors Studio and Summer Institute is made up of Trinity Rep actors and directors and trained education staff. The classes take place in the Pell Chafee Performance Center (home to the Brown/Trinity Rep MFA Program), located at 87 Empire St., Providence.
