Ocean State Theatre to Host MOVIE MUSICALS LIVE! in January

Ocean State Theatre Company (OSTC), currently celebrating its fourth season in its state-of-the-art theatre in Warwick, is pleased to announce its third annual benefit concert presentations - Movie Musicals Live! starring OSTC "kid" alumni on Saturday, January 9 and A Night of Broadway Classics starring Fred Scheff on Saturday, January 16.

Movie Musicals Live!, which will reunite "kid" alumni, who have appeared in previous OSTC productions both at Theatre By The Sea from 2007-2012 and Ocean State Theatre from 2012-2015, will be directed and choreographed by NYC choreographer MK Lawson (The Winter Wonderettes and RENT for OSTC) and music directed by concert pianist Tamra Stephenson, who is currently on staff at the French American School of New York. The special benefit concert will feature songs everyone knows and loves which got their start on the silver screen including songs from: All That Jazz, An American in Paris, Beauty and the Beast, Enchanted, Footloose, 42nd Street, Frozen ,Mary Poppins, Meet Me in St. Louis, The Muppet Movie, Pocahontas, Singin' in the Rain, White Christmas, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, The Wizard of Oz, and more. Funds raised will benefit the Camp OSTC Scholarship Fund, which is used to underwrite tuition to the popular musical theatre camp recently awarded a "Best of Rhode Island Award" from RI Monthly. Scheduled to appear are Calista Heart Aguinaldo, Abigail McMahon, Laurel McMahon, Lily McMahon, Eve Senerchia and Grace Truslow of Warwick; Jessica Arsenian and Celeste Richards of South Kingstown; Sophie Blackman of Pawtucket; Brooke Lee Ann Boisvert of Harrisville; Gia Antonelli, Connor Buonaccorsi, Wesley Memery, Amaryllis Miller and Bobby Miller of Cranston; Sydney Carriero and Isabella Manchester of Somerset; Andrew Faria of East Providence; Brigid Fitzgerald of Kingston; Alexander LeBlanc of East Greenwich; Abigail Paige of Coventry, and Kate Rocchio of Narragansett.

Directed by Producing Artistic Director Amiee Turner, with musical direction by Michelle Beaton, A Night of Broadway Classics will star Dr. Fredric S. Scheff who portrayed Jean Valjean in OSTC's 2013-14 season opener, LES MISERABLES. Dr. Scheff has invited soprano Diana McVey to be his special guest. Ms. McVey's consummate skills as both a singer and an actress have made her highly visible in opera, oratorio and as soloist with symphony orchestras. The concert will also feature local favorites Sarah Pothier, who has appeared in OSTC productions of Into the Woods (Cinderella), Meet Me in St. Louis (Esther Smith), George M!, and Peter Pan and Kevin Patrick Martin, who has appeared with OSTC in 42nd Street (Andy Lee), Legally Blonde (Kiki, Ensemble), Les Miserables (Ensemble), The Producers, George M! and Evita. Dr. Scheff will also welcome several of his voice students to join him for this very special concert. The program will feature classical pieces, including songs and arias from composers such as Purcell, Faure, Ravel, Schubert and Strauss, as well as Broadway tunes by Cole Porter, Gilbert and Sullivan, Jerome Kern, George Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein.

Movie Musicals Live! will be presented on Sunday, January 9 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $29 for adults and $19 for kids. A cast party will be held following the performance and may be added for $5 to any ticket. A portion of the ticket price is tax deductible. (Ask the box office for more details.)

A Night of Broadway Classics will be presented on Saturday, January 16 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $39. An "after party" meet-n-greet will be held with the cast following the performance and may be added for $15 to any ticket on a limited basis. A portion of the ticket price is tax deductible. (Ask the box office for more details.)

OSTC subscribers will enjoy a reduced rate on adult tickets, which will be available when purchasing tickets on the phone or in person at the box office. Special kids price added for Movie Musicals Live!, so families can come and celebrate the thrill of coming to the theatre!

The theatre is located at 1245 Jefferson Boulevard, Warwick, RI. Tickets are on sale at the box office Monday through Friday from 12 noon - 6:00 pm, Saturdays from 12 noon - 4:00 pm, and from 12 noon until curtain on performance days.
