The workshop is sponsored by Moral Voices a student-led initiative that focuses on different issues of universal moral importance at the Ivy League school. Each year the theme presents various issues and this year the group is tackling violence against LGBTQ+ individuals and communities. The goal of the initiative is to start a conversation and work toward changes in the community. Moral Voices Co-chair Natalie Cutler invited Jones and Mello to the university to present the play to students in a workshop environment with a full cast since the play tackles various issues inside and out of the LGBTQ community.
The play follows Jesse, a self-proclaimed "chubby" librarian who meets Adam, a 'conventionally handsome" graphic designer who works for a fast-paced advertising firm in modern day New York City. The awe of their new relationship is met with opposition when Adam's friends and co-workers Troy and Dominic doubt the realism and genuinity of what they have exactly. The play raises the question: Does your body type determine who you're allowed to fall in love with?
The reading is directed by Lili Stiefel and will feature: Bruce Jones (Tour: Hair, Off B'way: Marie Christine), Jonathan Mello (Off B'way: It Takes Life), Tyler Gardella (Off B'way: The Mysteries at The Flea), Jon Huggins (Off B'way: The Mysteries at the Flea Theatre).
The reading will take place on February 8th, 2015 at The Alumni Hall Crystal Room at the university with a talkback to follow. Attendance is free and students, faculty and local residents are welcome to attend. Time TBA.
