Artists' Exchange is currently seeking play submissions for the 9th Annual One Act Play Festival.

Plays should be original, short one act plays; previously produced plays are acceptable. Comedic, absurd, dramatic, farcical, musical, etc. are all welcome and encouraged for review. Playwrights may submit up to three (3) plays. Selected plays will be performed at Theatre 82 in Cranston, Rhode Island, on two consecutive weekends between July 25 and August 16, 2014 (more performance details below).

All plays must be received by April 1, 2014. Any plays received or postmarked past April 1stwill not be accepted for review. Plays will be reviewed and judged by a panel of community directors and artists on their artistic and technical merits, and collectively decided on whether they are "selected for performance" or "not selected." Total number of selected plays is TBD, based on factors including number of submissions, length of plays, etc.

The OAPF Panel will finalize all selected plays for performance by May 1, 2014, after which the official list will be announced. All playwrights will receive notification of whether their play(s) were accepted or not. By submitting works, playwrights agree to allow Artists' Exchange to produce their play(s) in the Festival for the public's entertainment and benefit.

Participation is volunteer; no stipends or monetary prizes are awarded to selected playwrights. All monies collected from ticket sales will benefit Artists' Exchange/Gateways to Change, Inc. and the continuation of the One Act Play Festival for years to come. Selected playwrights will receive complimentary tickets (amount TBD) and recognition in the playbill, including a personal bio and contact information (if provided).

The festival will take place July 25-August 16, 2014, Fridays & Saturdays at 7:00 PM at Theatre 82 (82 Rolfe Square, Cranston, RI 02910). It is presented in two waves; each Wave is separate and features different plays, and there are four performance dates per wave. Wave 1 is July 25-August 2 and Wave II is August 8-16.

To submit, please send all plays to Artists' Exchange by physical mail or email and include a brief introduction and your contact information. Once received, playwrights will be sent confirmation of receipt. Send any questions or communications to Jessica Bradley, Theatre Manager (contact information below).

Since 2006, Artists' Exchange has hosted the One Act Play Festival (OAPF) for the entertainment and enjoyment of the Cranston community. Short plays are submitted from local, regional, and national playwrights and then selected for performance by a panel of directors/artists. Casts feature community actors ranging in sex, age, and experience levels.

Now in its ninth year, the OAPF started in the intimate Black Box Theatre at Artists' Exchange and has grown into the larger Theatre 82. Artists' Exchange continues to bring quality, accessible, and affordable art and theatre to families, individuals, and groups in this traditional summer event.

Artists' Exchange is a nonprofit arts collaborative whose mission is to create an atmosphere in which creativity, learning and discovery converge and individuality is celebrated. We are operated by Gateways to Change, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all human beings.

Artists' Exchange is home to multiple art studios, a gallery, art boutique and café, along with secondary venue Theatre 82, a multi-use performance, meeting and instructional space. Enriching classes and summer camps are offered year-round in art, ceramics, theater, and music; and a variety of events - including plays, music concerts, birthday parties, and fundraisers - are hosted at our venues.
